Lightweight with great features
Very pleased with this machine. It is lightweight, and manages to sew through several thicknesses. Excellent instructions included...dvd and manual. If you are experienced sewist, then stay away. Otherwise, it's fine.
I guess I'm a little spoiled. I bought this machine to use for making cards. And yes, it does that, but working with it is a pain. First, the lighting is incredibly poor. The light shows up only to the right of the needle; not at all on the left, and certainly not on the needle bed. Second, the machine is a little noisy. Third, the listing said it was "full size" which is it not!!! I placed the machine in my sewing machine well on my desk and it's much shorter than a full size, by almost 10 inches. Next is the ability to see what you are doing. Very difficult, combined with the lighting and the foot that is solid metal. A foot with some clear plastic would work better for turning corners. After learning to sew when dinosaurs roamed the earth, having a learning curve when working with this machine is difficult. I could expect that on a higher priced machine. However, with all of this being said, if you are a total newbie and have absolutely no experience with any type of sewing machine, and want to keep your budget in check, then I suggest buying this. Easy to use sewing machine
I learned to sew with a Singer machine. This Brother 17 stitch is easy to use and the instruction book is easy to follow, as well. I did not know that the bobbins from a singer machine WILL NOT work in a Brother sewing machine, so that's really the only inconvenience. Perfect for a beginner sewer
This was a gift for my 13 year old granddaughter. She loves the aqua color and found the instructions on how to thread a bobbin and the machine to be very good. YouTube has a few instructional videos which also helped, along with my guidance.
