A decent quality reel with bang for your buck!!
This Shimano iX 1000R reel is a good deal for the price. It has a trigger on it that will allow you to cast it with one hand. It will flip the bail open and allow you to cast with one hand. I have had one for several years and it is of good quality. It is best for UL to Light fishing combos and has always worked well for me. It has the drag on the rear which allows you to adjust the drag easily while you are fighting a fish. I think the reel is mainly graphite which is lite. Actually, if you buy the iX 4000R model it is big enough for Light Saltwater fishing and the graphite reel will not rust because there is NO metal to rust. Not as good as the others
I used this reel this weekend, and I was really disappointed. The retrieval speed is not very fast and seems inconsistent. It’s an excellent ultralight reel for the price. Rear drag for easy adjustment. Quick Fire II line pick up. Capacity 100 yds of 6#. Our older son’s first rod and reel are a 33 year old version paired with a Shimano FX 5’6” UL, and he still fishes it. Not Cheap, Inexpensive!
It’s a Shimano! I’ve used Shimano for over 30 years. I’ve never seen a QuickFire Reel at this price point. I guess I’ve been looking in all the wrong places. It’s a GREAT albeit Inexpensive Light/Ultralight Reel! It reels smooth as silk. It has the rear drag (which I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t make) and the QuickFire which is the most simple, spinning reel casting mechanism ever made. Again, why doesn’t everyone make theirs like this. I think if if you pick one up at, especially this price, you’ll be well pleased. Once again it’s a Great Reel!
