Additional informationPersonnel: James Brown (vocals). Liner Note Authors: James Brown ; St. Clair Pinckney. Arranger: James Brown . James Brown helpfully offers his own review of this album on the back of the LP jacket: "Take a Look at Those Cakes is my greatest since The Payback," he writes. Never trust an artist to rate his or her own work. The (near) title track, "For Goodness Sakes, Look at Those Cakes," is Brown's 11-minute tribute to the female derriere, but it doesn't match such classics of the somewhat limited genre as "Shake Your Booty." It does have a percolating rhythm track, however, indicating that Brown is at least keeping up with dance music trends. Still, whatever the never-humble Brown may have thought, this album did not represent a comeback. ~ William Ruhlmann
