A Great Home Printer (But Not for Office Level Work)

When my HP 5640 gave up the ghost after nearly 10 years of reliable service, I needed to replace it with a printer of similar quality whose cost would not break my piggy bank. I found this printer, the price was right, and it had several features my now departed printer did not have (such as scan and copy). When I received it, I was surprised by how lightweight it was. But setting it up was a snap (directions included for doing so were clear and easy to follow). Inserting the ink cartridges was a new experience since they required being "snapped" into place instead of closing a spring-loaded cover. However, when I loaded it up with paper (the feeder is substantially smaller than what I was used to with my previous printer), turned it on, and then had my laptop print its first page to it, I was satisfied with the result. I was pleased to see that I could also "print" to a PDF format instead of paper, if I chose that option. This printer also has the capability of using a Wi-Fi connection via a router using Bluetooth protocols), and that means more than one device can use it from anywhere within range PLUS one can use a cellphone or tablet (with Wi-Fi capability) to print out a document to it. I did not try that option, so I do not know how well it works. But the best feature is that the printer can order additional ink cartridges when it senses they are getting low--provided you set that option up with HP when you register the printer AND as long as you leave the Wi-Fi connection open. I also tried the scan and copy functions, and they worked quite well. However, both those functions work only with standard paper, so things like framed photos and the like cannot be done. All in all, this printer will serve my needs AND the ink cartridges are substantially less expensive than they were for my previous printer (like about a third the cost), so that definitely makes up for any "inconveniences" there may be with this printer--as in paper loading is not quite as simple as loading a tray and the receiving tray does not extend out long enough to properly hold the printed sheets without them slipping off onto the floor. Also there is no reverse print option, so printing out a series of pages that are meant to be in order will need to be reversed by hand. And while the software accommodates two-sided printing, that must be done one at a time by hand (while the printer waits for you to flip the sheet and then it in the paper tray a second time) as each side is ready to be printed. I will also be interested to see how long the ink cartridges last compared to what I used before. However, the two supplied "beginner" cartridges (that supposedly held much less ink than the "regular" ones I will need to buy did provide me with two good weeks of printing, or about 150 pages total. The regular cartridges claim to produce at least double that. The unique aspect was that the software needed to run the printer had to be downloaded from a dedicated website and not from a disk, but once installed it identified my printer and all worked well. It includes features like choosing specific pages to print (helpful when you only need certain pages--like from a multi-paged digital document), adjusting margins, adjusting print quality (draft, normal, best) and resolution (up to 1200 dpi), and having access to a wide variety of paper sizes Including envelopes, index cards, etc. I found the printer even worked well with label sheets and photo paper, but I doubt that anything thicker or stiffer than that would not be handled by this printer. So if you're looking for a printer that can handle relatively light printing demands from home uses, then this one is perfect. If you are looking for something to handle the level of a typical office's output, then I would suggest looking for a different model. But either way, I can say that HP is a brand I totally trust for reliability.

    Small, lightweight, fast, good quality

The printing quality is good for regular documents, even when you make a draft the draft is good quality. It took some time to get the Wi-Fi set up and once it gets set up, the printer takes quite a bit of time to receive the print message. It works, however, because it is so slow, I decided to forgo the Wi-Fi and just simply use the USB. The printer is very fast with this connection. All in all, it suits my needs as I am not doing anything very fancy but just plain simple, every day use documents. If if that is you, it’s a very good printer This describes you when this could be a good

  • Decent Little Printer/Scanner; Great for the price!

Probably not the best printer out there, but no bells and whistles, which is what I needed! I needed a scanner and I print about a page or two in color per month, so if you need more than that this review doesn't probably help you. BUT after two canons and an epson that cost me huge amounts of time, grief, and money this was amazing! Scanned a document correctly, printed a page I needed perfectly and connected to my wireless network quickly. None of the previous had been able to find the network, even sitting right next to the router, and all demanded I purchase new ink or they would pout and not let me print, even though the same ink had been fine previously. This might eventually pull the ink scam, but I probably have a couple of months till then.

  • A good simple printer!

I wanted a printer without any bells and whistles. Just a printer and this suits my needs great. I set it up with the cd that was provided and I didn't have any trouble at all. It prints good quality photos. It is fast. The only con I have is the short power cord. I have to use an extension cord to use the outlet that I want to plug it into.

  • CHEAP & FLIMSY SHORT SHELF LIFE FOR TRAVELING BUT GOOD PRINTING

Quality is good for printing both in color and bw. Small enough to carry around in a bag, but to make it truly portable & on the go, I use an Anker Powerhouse 100 power bank w a 3 prong outlet (look it up). But it is filmsy and the plastic breaks; but what do you expect for $20? (This is my 3d one in 5 years and this one cost me $40 used... yeah post-pandemic inflation SUCKS.). Recommend it highly for cheap portable printing which I use all the time.

  • Think again if you want this printer.

I always buy HP printers if possible. I wanted an inexpensive printer this time because of the lack of money! The last HP printer I bought was only $30 and it lasted almost 3 yrs.! Nowdays you don't find much value in products selling for $30 so I looked at printers under $100. I thought that the HP DeskJet 3755 would work well but I was wrong. First one was thrown into a snow bank so I had to return it for fear it wouldn't work after getting moist. So I asked for the same printer as the replacement. It came fast and I figured I could get it up and running within a day or less . I had nothing but trouble and quit after spending 4 hours on it. I started again the next day and worked for 5 more hours and got it running but couldn't get connected to the Instant Ink program. HP directions suck! At that point I was finished. It is noisy, jerky, inconsistent in print quality and in the feeding of docs. I will shop for a better printer and hope I have better results. I am very disappointed and annoyed!

  • No need to buy a more expensive printer

Good lil printer for what I need it for. I had to connect it directly to one of my laptops but it came with the cord. The app works good. Pretty handy good for house hold use.

  • I recommend it but be aware of the wireless problems that might occur.

Prints good, a little slow, it was tough getting the wireless to work , but now it is working on my laptop as well as my android phone. so far so good.

very nice small size. I've been printing with good results. Copying was a little hard to figure out but once I did..it was easy. So far so good!

  • I love the printer I gave 4 stars cause I don’t like the ink finish too fast

The printer is good and makes good copy using the ink but I don’t like the fact that the ink runs out so fast I printed less that 50 sheets and the ink is finished already both of them the colored and the black ink
