    Usefell router, manual bit naff

An excellent router at a good price yes, however there are things to take in to consideration, for instance: Do you want to know if there is traffic on a specific port? This is useful with fault finding! Do you want to know the data rates? There are no LEDS showing this information! If you want to see LEDs showing this data then this is the wrong unit for you, however its not the end of the world ... The manual assumes you have set up knowledge, which not all of us have! There are three different ways to set it up, as far as I can understand from the manual. Ive set mine up in "Router Mode " using a cable, as Wifi in and around my my home is rather congested with signals. Question is - Where do I plug the cable which goes back to my hub? To me the sheet was not clear - There are 5 sockets on the back marked 1, 2, 3, 4 and "Internet" ( its all internet !!!) this may be obvious to some of you, but I feel the connector information has been "lost in translation". For sake of clarity: 1, 2, 3, & 4 are the outputs. "Internet" is the input from your main hub, or Modem as the "Guide puts" it, It's that simple. The "guide" does tell you that, after some thought is given as to whats its on about! There are three aerials on the back whic?h can be rotated to a number of angles to try and ensure maximum range. If you can work out how to connect to the Router itself, the instructions were clear enough to follow, You can do such things as: examining traffic data and, as I did: Change the password, change the admin name, & change its name to something you like the sound of., Mine arrived with the name :" TP-Link-E34C" which is a bit boring! There are LED indicators on it, and these are status LEDs which are useful, the idea is Blue is everything's working OK, there are 4 status modes. The unit comes with its own little power supply which runs quietly, and cool to touch. My overall feeling is its very good, it handles the thoughput well, pity about the instructions about where to shove the cat 5 plug's but once you have mastered that, plugged it in and played with it a bit its excellent.

If slow broadband is your desire buy one of these!

I purchased this hoping it would improve my wireles range and maybe get the speed a little faster did this happen? NO!!! I went from having limited range and 20-24mb download & 18-20mb upload. After setting up the TP-LINK it to 9mb download & 9mb upload. Absolutely fuming it now lays on a shelf collecting dust and will most likely be thrown out at some point. Cheers TP-LINK!

  • Great Product but no gigabit

I'd have given this 5 stars if it had 1000 Base-T(X). Otherwise, it is a fantastic little router. + Plenty of features in management + User-friendly management page + Very strong Wi-Fi signal + Small and lightweight, easy storage - 10/100 Base only, no 1000 Base (Gigabit) - Antennae are fixed/non-removable For the price, it is a nice device for a small home network. However, beware that if you transfer a lot of data across your network or have high speed (100mbps+) broadband, the device may cause a bottleneck.

  • Easy set up - then works reliably.

I had a problem with Virgin-Media broadband dropping out repeatedly. The VM modem-router was re-starting ( occasionally re-initialising) by itself. I installed a net monitor, and traced the fault to the router part of the VM modem-router. I switched the modem-router to 'modem only' mode, then introduced this router into my network. Installation (using the 'built-in' wizard) was very straightforward. Previously there were up to six interruptions a day; since installing this router, there have been no interruptions at all. As a bonus, the Wi-Fi connections seem more stable now. I am using mainly Wi-Fi connections (up to 12, including video streaming), and one wired LAN; the router seems to be plenty fast enough. Note this is a version 3 router (450Mbps), and it came complete with power supply and WAN cable. I am very happy with this result.

  • Excellent service and product

Product arrived on time and in excellent condition. Well packed. After installing my CCTV cameras and moving my router upstairs, I lost some of the broadband signal through out the house. This device was recommended to me and I purchased it and had it set up. We get broadband signal everywhere in the house now and it is much faster than before. Thank you for a wonderful product. Would highly recommend. Well worth the money paid as it keeps my daughter happy, who is always on the internet.

  • Cant get it to work!!!

I've had this router now for over a week, I have tried everything to get it to work but I just can't get it to connect to my computer. I have called the help line, useless they barely spoke English, online chat was also unhelpful, it still does not work!! i am now having to pay for someone to come over to sort it out!! i hope he can get it to work!! The worst of it is, every time I try to sort it out it tells me "congratulations Enjoy" and it still does not F.....ing work!!!!

  • slow

The maximum speed without any obstructions at 2meters is 159MBPS not 450MBPS and the range is poor ,compared to IP's standard equipment

  • No modem!

Most routers incorporate a modem. Whilst this is a good router, emitting a decent signal, it does not incorporate a modem, so it won't work at all unless you buy one separately (or plug this router into another one which does have a modem incorporated). This additional level of complexity is not helpful and may not be clear from the description before purchase.

  • A great router for anybody interested in trying DD-WRT

In terms of hardware, the TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND V2.1 is an excellent router with a gigabit switch, USB 2.0 port, and 2.4-GHz wireless-n radio. In addition, the stock TP-Link firmware can easily be replaced with the open-source alternative, DD-WRT, which greatly extends the capability and security of the device. The procedure for doing this does carry some risks that leave your router permanently disabled, and thus comes with all the normal caveats about recording your network settings, and saving your data before you begin. Nevertheless, it is similar to performing an official upgrade, except that you need to use the most recent factory-to-ddwrt.bin file taken from the betas/tplink_tl-wr1043nd-v2 section of the Other Downloads page at the DD-WRT website. Reset the router to the factory defaults with a so-called hard 30/30/30 reset, and install the new system via the router's System Tools- Firmware Upgrade web page at 192.168.0.1 over a WIRED network connection (NOT wireless). Do not interrupt the installation until it is complete, at which point the original TP-Link web-admin page abruptly fails to reload. The new web-admin interface for DD-WRT is at 192.168.1.1, where you are prompted to provide a new name and password for the router, which you can then configure according to your wishes. For subsequent upgrades of DD-WRT, use the tplink_tl-wr1043nd-v2.bin from the DD-WRT website.
