A No-Brainer for Old Laptops
This product is a no-brainer if you're looking to speed up your old laptop without spending what it would cost for a completely new one. I bought this SSD because it was highly recommended by several online reviewers. And although it sold for about $600 in some places, I found it for just $385 (selling for less now) and that was the tipping point for me. Combined with the right price and the technical specs, this was the right choice. After placing my order, it arrived within a week by USPS Priority mail in the OEM package. The SSD of course is small and it comes with a software installation disk that was easy to use. It clones your original hard drive that's in the laptop; all you need to buy is a SATA-to-USB cable (which you can get online for less than $25.00). I just followed the included instructions the whole process when without a hitch. My laptop hard drive was about 600GB with over 400GB in use, so it too about 10 hours to clone the drive to my new 1TB SSD. The physical install of the SSD into the laptop itself after the cloning process was just as simple (took only a few minutes), and after restarting the computer with the SSD installed, it was like night and day. WOW! Windows 10 booting went from about two minutes to less than 30 seconds and all my apps on the laptop seem to load instantly. If your old laptop is slow and you're thinking of buying a new one, I'd recommend you try the Samsung 850 PRO SSD 1TB (or whatever size you can afford) first. You will truly be amazed at the performance improvement you get without spending hundreds of dollars more for a new computer. This drive does what the manufacturer says it will do. Unbelievable speeds!
I do repair work on electronics and video game consoles. This requires constant loading of data sheets and schematics for many different components. My i7 ASUS Laptop with a 7200RPM 1TB HDD was just too slow for my needs. Also the boot times for Windows 10 was reaching 1-1.5 minutes!!! Application loading was slow, especially heavy load ones. Now with this upgrade... 15 second boot time!! WHAT?!?! I couldnt believe it. Applications load instantly and my files are accessed without a hiccup. Samsung SSD 850 PRO 1TB
Briefly, if you still have your factory drive in a Mac laptop, don't even hesitate - just buy this. I'll make this pretty short - since I could go on and on. I have a mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro, 500gb, which over the years had become slow as an old dog - with everything. I keep it in mint shape, and it's made very well, as all Apples are. I dreaded having to buy another new Mac, and shelling out over $2500; I decided it wasn't going to happen this time - I did this scenario many times before. Very quick research on the PRO vs the EVO revealed a very highly rated product with extreme life expectancy due to its technology, backed up with a great warranty. I shopped and found a deal of basically $100 off the going price of $500 - got mine for $400. I'll skip the basics; I installed Carbon Copy Cloner, $40, bought a good (cheap) Sabrent SATA cable $10, cloned my 500gb hard drive. The SSD started right up, is unbelievably fast in everything it does - from startup speed to Photoshop to everything - this old 2010 MacBook is like a brand-new computer. I saved over $2000!! I should also mention I upgraded the factory RAM with another $80 investment, so this also played a role. I also bought a $10 app that monitors fan speed and computer temperature – the computer runs nice and cool, even under a heavy load. If you have an older Mac like me, skip the move to Sierra. I did it, and it complicated things immensely; it's another chapter and suffice it to say, it caused over-heating all by itself. Sick with the latest edition of El Capitan and enjoy the immense speed and storage space. You'll probably need a newer Mac for Sierra, but they won't tell you that, BTW, lots of people have reported over-heating out-of-control with Sierra, and unfortunately Apple is useless with tech help. I can't say enough about the Samsung 850 PRO 1TB – best money I EVER spent on computer equipment.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I am a systems builder of High End Gaming rigs, with technology progressing at the rate it is, an SSD is a no brainer, platter drives are all but obsolete. Most people do not need more than a Tb of storage, but for the ones that do , this SSD is worth every dime of the 399.99 I paid for it. Boy, is my laptop fast now!
Acer laptop with a 1TB rotary drive was an OK performer. I7 chipset, 16GB RAM was working pretty well. But I replaced the rotating drive with this SSD, and what was a 2-minute boot process is now about six seconds. Windows just STARTS. Lightning fast hard drive
The latest generation of hard drives from Samsung has improved speed and reliability - the life expectancy of the drive is as good or better than standard drives (15+ years for average user). I ran speed tests with this drive and a WD black (each with 1 TB) and the Samsung was more than five times faster. It also runs cool and silent (using much less power).
