About this product

Product Information

Give your television a modern makeover by plugging in the 2nd Generation Google Chromecast. The pocket-sized black device blends in effortlessly with your TV and other hardware. This plug-in streaming device easily installs into your TV's HDMI port for simple wireless access to streaming movies, television shows, and even games. There are over 200,000 movies and TV episodes to select from with the Chromecast, and 30 million songs to listen to via music applications like Pandora. Compatible with a variety of applications, the Chromecast works via your Apple or Android device to bring you the entertainment you desire without glitches or using up your battery power. Transform your iPhone into your TV's remote control and select what you want to watch or do, and let the Chromecast do the rest. Your phone can control the streamer from anywhere you are in your home using the Cast button to 'mirror' what's on your phone to your TV screen. Some apps you can use vary, from music-listening apps like Spotify to streaming services like Hulu along with TV networks like HBO and the CW. If you're already a subscriber to some popular apps, you don't even need to sign in to use them; simply launch them from the app on your phone and watch instantly. Along with paid, subscription-based apps, there are also 1000s of free applications to stream from. You can also project anything from your phone or tablet to your TV, such as images from your Google Photos account or Facebook, or share content from your Internet browser, and if you have a Google Home device, you can use voice controls to find the media and entertainment you want to play, making the Chromecast even easier to use, whether you're searching for a specific photo, TV episode, or YouTube video.

    Great for streaming audio

I use the chromecast to stream internet radios. It's best used along with mobile apps. I use TuneIn radio to trigger playback and GoogleCast app to stop casting and/or to change the volume. The GoogleCast app takes pretty long to load even though it does almost nothing. Apart from showing a list of devices (plus basic control) it shows also list of chromecast enabled apps. That would be useful if I could actually install those apps - majority of them are only for US app store, so it points me only to an error message. I actually wanted to use it even to send wirelessly sound from my MacBook to my remote speakers, but that's not possible. There is no official support for such feature, so I tried some open source projects. It didn't even start, so I abandoned this and still using Bluetooth to transfer the sound itself. The only way to transfer sound from MacBook is via Google Chrome, which I'm not using anyway. I've also struggled a bit to setup the device as it works only in Chrome, no other browsers are supported. So the device does it job in playing online music very well, but it's not capable doing anything else.

  • Top critical review

    An absolutely terrible experience, overall.

This product is deeply flawed. Set up did not match booklet (there were no "prompts" I had to guess every step) The volume only works 1 out of 3 times. Sometimes there is zero ability to control volume Sometimes the volume , when maxed, is too quite to hear (I have to do a hard reset 1-3x on the same media source to get to hearing the media I want, sometimes this takes an HOUR of resets) Nothing I do can get Hulu to stream on chromecast. "Enabling" streaming services is a lie, I have to download the separate app and sign in independent of google, so the only reason google put that step in was to track you and use your data, not to help you watch a service. An absolutely terrible experience, overall.

  • Very small and functional but lack the new codecs and DLNA support

What I miss the most is support for H.265 (HEVC) that becomes more and more the new standard de-facto and even more, as non native English speaker, it would be great if we were less depended on external Chrome store apps like VideoStream to stream content with subtitles (like some DLNA servers have). Last, the power cable should be transferred in the future to wireless power or HDMI+USB type C that can be used as a power suppliant via the TV own power. Other than that, does the work pretty well, including its Android mirroring feature.

  • Fair Product (Still)

My second Chromecast device. The first one fails intermittently after approx 9 mos of continuously being powered. (I am not leaving my new one plugged into power unless in use) I do like the product but am somewhat disappointed at the video casting disconnects (from the phone app) every now and again. It is still not a solid capability fore some reason. Much better availability of direct casting from external Inet based services. I still like it but believe it could be better. Maybe next model issue. Does it perform well is actually "Fair" vs the hard yes/no choice above.

  • Great Product

I am so glad that I bought this product for myself. I was trying to stop using cables to hook up my laptop to my hd television. This product pretty much eliminated me having to do the connecting of a bunch of cables. 1) The device was easy to setup. 2) I have a lot of viewing choices like: Netflix, Musixmatch, Gaia TV, You Tube, etc, thus I never get bored. 3) I am able to use one chromecast device on any hd tv in my home. A few months ago I even took it over my daughter's home and was able to use it as entertainment for her three kids by looking and dancing to youtube videos. Again, it set up within minutes. 4) The quality of this unit is really good. It is not flimsy. 5) Finally, I actually ended up buying two more chromecast/google cast devices. One for my fiancee' and pne for my youngest daughter. I love the screen savers, and now the unit allows me to even use own pictures. Thanks again.

  • Great device for its price

All in all - great value for money. Casting online content is great, quality and ease of use are flawless. Casting your own device's screen, e.g. laptop, is less brilliant. As a streamer it's not amazing, just OK. But for $35 it's a great and cheap way to make any screen a smart TV...

  • Chromecast 2015 works with WIN 10

I use this to stream videos from my laptop across the room to my HDTV...when it works, it works very well....sometimes I have to refresh screens to get it to load a Netflix video or back out of Netflix and reload, enable Chomecast and it works fine again...it seems to do this less as I use it more...Initially, a few times, the Chromecast app could not find my Chrome cast device (but Chromecast has an effective trouble shooting step by step)....this has not happened in a while now and may been more a problem with my laptop than the device...I definitely would buy again....

  • Easy to set up

Product arrived on time. It is a genuine Google Chromecast 3rd gen. I already have one first gen Chromecast for almost 8 years. No problem so far. Bought this one for another TV. Very easy to set up with google up. You can cast any screen from your laptop.

  • Love it..Love it

I was skeptical about getting the Fullcast Dongle over the Chromcast but i got the Dongle because the price was lower. I loveeeee it. The only difference between Fullcast and Chromecast is you get a remote and extra apps with chrome. I have a tablet and a phone so i just mirror my screen to Fullcast Dongle select what i want to watch on my phone and i'm up and going. The video and the sound is amazing. Turn phone or tablet sideway for full screen view. I have only had it for 2hrs (got it in the mail today) and i'm already in love.

  • Don't need a smart tv

This device works really well for $30. I can't see getting a smart tv or some of the overpriced set top devices out there over the Chromecast. Don't have a PS/4 on the other tv so this device fits that bill. Since this Chromecast can play DLNA all I need now is an hdhomerun extend and a good HD antenna to cut the cable cord. I like using my phone to change channels as it's one less device to keep track of.
