  • An impressive super telephoto lens

I've just got this lens last Sunday and pulled it out two times now. At 150mm at f/5 this lens is incredible, but at 600mm f/6.3 this lens is still sharp even hand held. Thanks to Tamron's vibration compensation (VC) technology. I've been shooting hand held on purpose to see how it handles with just me and my arm. I mount this lens on my Nikon D750 so it's about 5.95 pounds combine so while it is heavy it is manageable for me. This weekend I plan to take it out to the zoos and to the Mass Audubon Wildlife and I will be taking my monopod with me. So I expect to get even better results especially at the maximum 600mm zoom range. I'm also going to an Cirque du Soleleil performance so I'm curious to see how this lens perform for indoor event. I'm bringing my backup lens but I have done some indoor testing and I think this lens will outshine my Nikon 18-200mm which has been my go to lens for indoor telephoto.

  • Best affordable way to get to 600mm

I love this lens. Great for wildlife and astro. I used this lens on my homemade astro-tracker and was able to get some cool shots of Orion's Nebula on a D7100. Very sharp wide open even sharper stopped down 1 stop. Image stabilization is a requirement even on a tripod if it is windy. It is a big lens, but it can still be carried around on short hikes. The only con I have with this lens and it may be more my camera, but on a D600 it overexposes by 1 stop. Excellent value for the money. Get rid of the tele-converters and pick one of these up.

  • Great beginner lens!

Purchased a Nikon D3400 to get into photography and was looking for a lens with more reach for wildlife photography. Found it in this tamron lens. The auto focus works well and fine adjustments can easily be made on the fly. I recommend this lens for the value. I think it will provide more detail and yield a crisper image than a lens with a shorter focal length paired with a teleconverter.

  • Excellent value for telephoto lens

We have just returned from South Africa and we went on a number of photo safari's in Kruger National Park as well as others in Botswana etc. We wish we had this lens with us on our trip. The lens is durable and the image is sharp. It is the affordable way to take great pictures using a Nikon d7100 camera. We will use it on our next trip to East Africa.

  • Great value lens..but heavy.

Works with full function on my Nikon D5000. Fully stretched, the image quality suffers a little, but for most of its range it really makes your subject jump out of the picture. I can pull in individual pine needles from trees at 500 ft. Stabilizer works very well. AF is quite fast (faster and better than the 300mm kit lenses) in average light, a little slower in dimmer light, or when shooting through glass. Limited function with a 1.5 Kenco tele-converter. You can still shoot, but forget the AF and VS features. You're fully manual. Tripod required. All in all for this price VERY good value. I'm taking off one star for the weight (4.5lb.) and for the issues with tele-conversion. Probably the best tele you'll find in this range.

  • Sharper than it has any right to be - even wide open

This amazing lens makes full use of the high res capabilities of the Nikon D810. It focus quick and sure and able to pull in subjects for great distances (haze and air pollution being the only limiting factors). Great for sports, birding, people shots at great distances.

  • It's a heavyweight; keep a tripod handy, but brand-new looking and at a great price.

Pros for this lens is exceptional clarity and sharpness throughout the focal range (I usually enhance in the post-production stage). Haven't noticed any cons, yet; the weather has not been cooperative!

  • Great Lens

Love this lens. Couldn't believe how fast it focused and how quietly it focused. Also love the placement of the manual focus ring and not having to switch from AF to MF to use it.

  • Great lens for us amatuers

Bought this lens for birds both on the ground and in flight, also air shows. Most shooting is hand held, so the shutter speeds are high, which they are anyway when shooting aircraft and moving birds. I have used it for just over 1000 shots, and after getting used to it all is well. Factory refurbished is good, as long as the factory is Tamron. Beware of non USA flenses. Very happy I went this route, and I feel that the newer model is not appreciably better nor worth the extra money.

  • Big Lens, Big Performance

Great big lens for those great big photos. I had owned the previous version (200-500mm) but it didn't have VC. This lens with VC is very good. I have even gotten some 95mm special filters for it.
