Product Information
The first generation Amazon Echo was Amazon’s first smart speaker. It provides music playback from various online streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music as well as from mobile devices using a Bluetooth connection. The black speaker can also connect to external speakers via Bluetooth if you want more punch than it can provide by itself. Even on its own, though, the Echo’s 2.5 inch speaker and independent tweeter speaker provide clear, sharp, omnidirectional sound. If you have more than one Echo, you can also sync them up to play the same audio in different rooms of your house. The main feature of the Echo, though, is Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant. Alexa responds to voice commands and will play and pause music, adjust the volume, and play tracks by specific artists when told to. She can also search the Internet to find you the latest weather reports and news headlines. Her features aren’t limited to media playback and weather updates, either. The Echo can be linked to compatible apps and smart home devices. Depending on how you set up your Echo with partnered apps, Alexa can adjust the heating in your home, turn your lights on and off, call you a cab, and even make phone calls.Product Identifiers

Affordable personal assistant
We have several echoes and dots throughout our house, we use it to listen to music, check the weather, traffic, adjust settings on our smart home devices, create shopping lists, use it as a kitchen timer, check facts, use as an intercom, phone family, as a bedside alarm, listen to music throughout the house, and the list just goes on and on. It really is a personal assistant, new skills are appearing every day and It's fun finding new things she can do and answer. Amazon Echo falls short of expectations
I really liked the idea of having a device I could talk to "out of nowhere" that would answer (although our cells phones can do similarly, but you have to turn them on and press buttons, etc.). It is also gratifying to be able to tell a device to play music and it does. I was quite disappointed in the ability of "Alexa" to answer any serious questions. Jeff needs to pay to send his programmers back to search school. So many times Alexa says a phrase similar to "I don't understand the question" So basically I paid for a radio. A paradigm shift!
I have been using different methods of voice recognition software to drive home automation software for years. Echo paired up with my Indigo system on a Mac mini now allows me to easily control my home automation devices by voice. My blinds, my light, get the weather for tomorrow. Oh, it's kind of humorous though when you are watching a TV show with a character with the name Alexa. I just wish Amazon would develop or allow customization beyond 2 names (Alexa or Amazon). Oh, and more devices for out of the box solutions. I definitely need a 12v and an IO device. Alexa, tell me a joke!
The Amazon Echo is a really fun thing to play with. We always try to find new things to say to it which would make it say something funny. The Echo has been the most helpful in our home for creating shopping lists for everyone in the house with a phone. If any of us find ourselves at the store, we know what the others want. Shopping on Amazon is really easy and fun as well. There's a whole bunch of apps so it won't be hard for you to find what will make the Echo useful to you specifically. We love it. Can't live without Alexa!
We love Alexa! She tells us the news, the weather, helps me cooking, plays trivia, listen to radio, podcasts and a whole plethra of other things. You can also ask her to add an item to a to do list or grocery shopping list, and it automatically shows up on your Alexa app. We no longer need to worry about forgeting our lists, its always with us in our phones. Highly Recommend the 1st Generation Alexa.
This is my 5th Alexa that I purchased for my home. I love it and place them in every room in the house. I highly recommend the 1st generation Alexa as it is the best sounding of them all. I have also purchased the newer one and the quality of sound was not near the Alexa 1st generation. I am now purchasing for Christmas gifts. How did I live my life without it?
Once you have this Echo device in your home, you wonder how did you manage without it. Alexa became my right-hand assistant from day 1. It wakes me up, schedule my appointments and remind me of them, she is my encyclopedia, my Google search. With so many skills I can't keep up with that ingenious device. Did I mention, Alexa plays my music until I fall asleep? She tells me where is my iPhone if I miss-place it, she can switch on and off my lights, TV etc. And if you are down, she can cheer you up with jokes. The only thing I wished she could do is to cook, but at least she can give you some recipes.
