  • Okay budget fixed mag prism optic

Not sure about the mount, because with an mbuis, I have to get painfully close to the charging handle. And the mount should be one piece solid construction. Other than that it's a nice budget optic. The red/green intensity settings are well done, work well in bright sun, dawn and the night shoot went really well with it too. Reticle is clear and pretty easy to pick up. Shot it out to 350 yards steel with no problem; BDC works okay. Didn't have time to properly verify the range estimation yet. Especially if you have astigmatism, this is a good choice for a budget scope due to it being a prism scope with an etched reticle. Used it in an o-course yesterday and banged the rifle up against a container after climbing a couple ladders, scope held the zero fine and let me finish the corse with no misses. It only has a few scratch marks now. Pretty happy with it.

  • So Far, So Good

As I write this, understand that I have only had the scope a short time and it has been used a limited amount. With that in mind: What I like: Out of the box the scope is nice looking and seems like it is well built and rugged (heavy). I am using it on an AR, and it was easy to mount and the battery for the reticle illumination was easy to install. Zeroing was easy and thus far it seems to be holding zero well. The windage and elevation adjustments are relatively crisp and work well. I have mixed feelings about the thin piece of wire used to hold the adjustment caps on. It’s nice that the caps won’t get lost, but the wire is a bit stiff and a little in the way. It can be cut off easily enough as I don’t see a way to simply remove it. The optics are nice, clear and easy to focus for different shooters. I have not used the reticle illumination much, nor do I expect to, but being able to select either red or green is a nice feature. The reticle is quite easy to see during daylight without illumination. I so far like the Enhanced Battle Reticle, which is the first I have ever seen or used. For me, the 3x magnification is about perfect as my shooting is generally anywhere between 25 and 200 yards. It provides for both quick acquisition at closer ranges and descent accuracy at the longer ranges. Having the option of using a 10mm mount riser is nice, though having tried mounting the scope both ways it’s hard to imagine anyone could use it without the riser on an AR. The ideal height for me would actually be somewhere between no riser and the riser provided. The included covers are nice. What could be improved: The eye relief could be longer. My scope is mounted as far to the rear on my AR as it can be and I am just at the edge of getting a full field of view. Another inch of eye relief would have been nice, two or three even better. I do not care for the reticle illumination adjustment knob much. For starters, it is somewhat stiff and the indents at the various illumination levels are barely discernible. I would prefer an easier turning knob with crisp indents at each of the five levels of illumination (5 for each color). Also, when viewing the knob from the shooters side, if it is at the "0" mark, the adjustment levels if the knob was turned clockwise would be INCREASING the illumination of that color (could be red or green) from 1 to 5. If however you would turn the knob counter-clockwise (choosing the opposite color), you would be DECREASING the illumination of that color from 5 to 1. Once turned 180 degrees you once again are at a "0" setting. Because my preference is to always start on the lowest setting, I would prefer that no matter which way you turned the knob from "0" (which is how the color is selected) you would always start at a setting of 1 and increase to a setting of 5. Though probably not a big deal to most, it bugs me. Of course, as stated, I do not expect to be using the reticle illumination much anyhow. Bottom Line: None of my dislikes are show stoppers and for the price this seems like a very descent scope. At this point, having used it little, I would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking about buying one!

  • Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism Scope EBR-556B MOA Reticle

Strong, sturdy ( rugged as hell) and accurate. I placed this scope on a .300 Blackout so the 556B adjustment was not designed for this caliber. That being said... it zeroed perfectly and was easy to adjust with very bright red or green recticle. Very quick acquisition and it held Zero even when I dropped rifle off 4 wheeler. I also like the way the spacer can be revoed to get scope on top of barrel . Things I did not like about it : close eye relief.. you have to get eyes REAL close to scope to see through it. The cross hair is a little too small for it to be perfect but it works. There no ability to switch bolts that hold it onto rifle from right to left beause the locking grove is only on one side. I like the nuts to be on left hand side of the AR not the right. For this reason, I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 but worth every dime.

  • Great scope with a few problems

There are only two reasons why I did not give this scope a 5 star rating. First, it is not possible to flip the base around 180 degrees. This means that the mounting nuts will always be on the right side of the weapon which can be a problem if you intend to mount 45 degree backup iron sights. The second and more important reason for the 4 star rating is that this sight has TERRIBLE eye relief. Your eye must be very close to the scope in order to see the entire field of view. This is a huge disadvantage for a tactical sight that is meant for both long and short ranges. A better design would have a longer eye relief so that the user could scan his/her surroundings while still looking down the scope instead of having to choose between one or the other. Aside from these two issues, this is an amazing scope. The optics are very clear and the reticle is very easy to use. You also cannot beat the Vortex warranty.

  • Solid compromise in a tactical/sport scope

I bought this for my AR-15 in hopes it would be a compromise between pure red dot sights and a longer-range scope. It is, with a few caveats. The piece is very solidly build, and the glass is very clear. I like the choice of red or green for the illuminated reticle, as well as the fact the etched crosshairs can be seen well in daylight if the batteries/illumination ever fail. The 3x magnification is enough for shots out to 150-200yds, which is what I wanted for coyotes/varmints. At closer ranges, the scope can be used almost like a red dot for faster target acquisition, or a smaller red dot combat sight could be mounted on one of the 45-degree rails on the scope, if needed. Vortex' lifetime warranty provides peace of mind. Once mounted, I was able to get it on the paper at 25 yards easily, and then back out to 50 and 100 to dial it in. I did not have a lead sled, so I may need to fine-tune the 100 yard zero further, but adjustments were simple and accurate. Overall, very pleased with the item for my intended use.

  • Near ideal scope for AR15 platform 223/5.56 Rifles and Carbines

This is a near ideal scope for AR15 platform 223/5.56 Rifles and Carbines. 3X is enough magnification for it's effective range, and it is short, light, and includes a pic rail mount. Height is perfect for an A2 stock cheek weld. Reticle s usable even if batteries fail. Vortex is always excellent.

  • Great 3x Optic

Highly impressed with this optic. I have had red dots in the past but was in the market for a sight that provided some magnification. I didn’t want a big bulky hunting scope on my AR, so when I came across the spitfire 3x I believed I had found a happy medium. The etched reticle with red and green illumination is a wonderful feature. If you’re in the market for that in between optic, this Vortex is your solution. I definitely recommend.

  • The best scope I've ever used!

LOVE this scope. I've used the worst from the best on many different hunting rifles, but I purchased an AR recently and put this little wonder on it and I tell yall, it's as accurate as the best of them. Truly a trustworthy scope. Good eye relief too. Being a smaller scope I didn't expect such an awsome field view past 200+ yards. Definitely recommend this scope for the Pro hunter or just plain tactical use. Well worthy the money.

  • Very Good Value

For the price, this is a very good scope---I would give it a 4.5/5 if possible. I compared this to the burris version AR332, same overall quality, but prefer the reticle of this scope---slightly easier to use and less obstruction of FOV. Given the magnification, this scope is really only good out to 300 yards (not due to any issue of the scope). The red and green illumination color option is a very nice feature. Easy to make windage and elevation adjustments.

  • Awesome value.

Purchased to put atop a 9mm carbine. I am not a fan of "red dot" type optics. I usually prefer a scope, but having the reticle etched into the optic allows the sight to be used even with no power. The 3x magnification is perfect for a pistol caliber carbine. Great value for the money.
