SONY A7R II (ILCE-7RM2), the best mirrorless camera

This camera is a 42MP full frame mirrorless one with 5-axis image stabilization (If you are using Sony lenses), featuring the world's first 35mm BSI (BackSide Illumination) CMOS sensor, and including a hybrid autofocus system and 4K video capabilities. So far I have only used Canon lenses on it using Sigma MC-11 adapter. It worked with most lenses I threw at it. I am waiting for a Original Sony lens (28-70mm OSS) and then I will know the effects of 5 axis stabilization too. I also added some apps, Digital filter which eliminates the need of ND filters (I have not tested this completely yet) Smart remote, Multiple exposure and Motion shot. (You can find more apps and info at playmemoriescameraapps com . 42 MP and wide dynamic range makes this a Landscape photographers dream and movie makers who need 4K.

  • Top critical review

The Sony A7R II is a great camera but not for everyone.

I returned the camera after about a week of use. Thought it started up too slow, image review too slow, the exposure compensation dial cumbersome and auto white too finike ( to much fine adjustments with changing scenes). My intention was to switch from Olympus EM-1 mkii to the Sony A7R II, but the ease of use and the final image appearance from the Olympus was far more pleasing. I shoot jpeg and expect the least amount of post processing and rarely need to enlarge images. The Sony has made me appreciate my Olympus EM-1 mkii all the more. The Sony is a great camera but did not serve my needs.

  • GREAT image quality and low light performance, but complicated and not intuitive

It is a great camera, (coming off of the Canon 6d). The image quality is absolutely stunning. The only problem is that the menus are difficult to make sense out of, there's no meaningful onboard help,, so many times you're just fiddling/guessing or looking back to the menu. It's not an intuitive process at all. I've been at it for a couple of weeks now and still thinking hard if I want to get outside of just basic shot set up. Once I fully understand how to use this camera it will be the best camera in the universe. :-) I got the Zeiss 55, 1.8 and an in dreamworld with portraits. The closest Eye focus pretty much delivers 95% "perfect" focus in shots (yes, tack sharp, perfect). Well over the 50% I got on my 6d. I love my camera, if you can afford it, you won't regret it. Get about 2 or 4 extra Wasabi batteries on amz, you'll need them.

  • Great deal excellent product

Love this camera so far. Been watching tons of YouTube videos on how to get the most out of its functions. There’s a lot... and can get a little complicated but with tutorials I caught on quickly. Coming from Canon I wasn’t sure at first, but I am happily satisfied now. Down side: Sony lenses are pricy and to use eye-autofocus, which is a great feature, you cannon use a converter. But that being said all other functions with my canon lenses and the sigma m11 converter I bought work great., including normal autofocus.

  • Fantastic Camera, I love mirror less camera's.

This camera has a lot more functions then I will ever use. It is loaded. I will never outgrow this camera. It is very compact and works perfectly with my Canon L series Lens, with the Metabones adapter. Great stabilization with the canon glass. So far I have found nothing negative about this camera except the battery which I new would be an issue before I purchased the camera. Easy fix, just purchased more batteries and a charger that will charge a couple of batteries at a time. I am 72 years old and love the light weight of this camera. Beats lugging my Canon 5D mark III around and has a bigger full frame sensor with better exposure latitude. I love this camera.

  • I love this camera SO MUCH!

I'm going to take it out and take some more/different lighting shots, but this thing has been AMAZING in it's image quality! The only down side I've seen so far is that the file size on a 42MP photo is pretty large, so sending it can be a little tedious. But I'm learning all the wonderful new features of this camera and I'm enjoying it a great deal thus far!

  • Great for projects where a silent camera is required or portability is important

Can't beat the sharpness of this camera. lightweight but well built. Silent shutter was a must for us. This would be a great camera for travel photographers. We use it with our Canon L series lenses and a metabones adapter. Works quite well with most lenses, occasionally has some focus issues but this was to be expected with a third party lens.

  • Marvelous - I let my Nikons go - good by Nikon, welcome to the new king!

Camera amazing! After shooting more than 11 years with nikon's I'm finally switch to SONY and I keep all my lenses (Nikons, Zeiss, Leica, Pentax) and I got adaptors for all of them and now on this SONY all my lenses works! Video capability outstanding, low light shooting - impressing. Handhold shooting - with this camera I easily can shoot video 1/20 with 50mm lens or photos even 1/15 with 135mm lens with no movement or blur. Little monster!

  • Awesome camera!! Sony a7r ii is a force to be reckoned with!

One of the best cameras i've own to date. Photo and video image quality is excellent. If you're someone who is looking for the best all around camera that can do both video and photography, then this camera is for you. It is a bit pricey, but offers so much more than the competition in this price range. Battery life is really short on this camera, but i dont see it as an issue because extra batteries can be purchased for cheap on ebay. Only downside to the sony a7r ii is, it isnt great for sports or fast action shooting. The lag in the electronic viewfinder during highspeed burst mode, makes it very difficult to track a moving subject. For sports and action shooting, i'd look elsewhere. This camera is perfect for portraits, studio shots, landscapes and travel. Even though its a 42mp camera, it can still be used handheld and still achieve sharp shots. You will however, need the very best of lenses to fully utilize and bring out the full resolution power of this 42mp beast. All in all, a great camera and a grear deal for what it offers. Highly recommended.

  • Great Camera

I do mainly video, I used this to replace my A7s. The video quality is spot on, with the added 42 mp. Low light is obviously not as good as the S models, but it’s still pretty great. Doesn’t handle quick movement for video as well either, but it’s a great video option for the low level professional. And a great photo option for anyone.
