  • Re-Issue Of A Classic

Possibly the best of those 50s low budget special effects gems. This one featured good writing (Richard Matheson) good direction and photography, imaginative use of live creatures (cat and spider) good performances from an above average cast and convincing sets. These combine to tell the amazing story of a man gradually shrinking to the infinitesimal. Existential in tone with sensitive reasoning’s to add humanity to its strange story. The final words uttered bring an unexpected profoundness to this unusual tale (thanks to Jack Arnold). The English re-issue Disc image is quite good but looks more like a fine grain composite transfer than a re-mastered negative. Its image comes across as more of a grey-scale than true Black and White. Perhaps may not have needed the BluRay - as a well transferred standard DVD could possibly look as good. Recommended entertainment. KenR.
