    Needed this earlier

This dehydrator is a really nice, easy to operate, and takes up very little counter space. We are still in the experimental phase but so far have really loved making "squash chips" with extra squash from the garden. The time recommendations in the manual are a little lower than what we found to be best for our tastes but it in no way detracts from this being a great model. We look forward to trying many other crispy creations!

    Overall FAIL... sorry Nesco.

Machine does the job. Not quiet, not horribly loud. My only complaint.... and it's a big one... is the lack of on/off switch. It feels like companies are being sloppy and cheap when you are forced to plug something in to turn in on (the fan starts blowing even before you have a properly seated connection, causing SPARKS which could burn the unit out!) and have to unplug the unit to turn it off... in my book this is a major FAIL.

  • Be surprised by this dehydrator and trays

The Nesco dehydrator took my buddy and I by surprise. We make jerky as professionals. Rather than the hundreds of $$$ you can spend, we have three of these and 30 trays between us and knock out the jerky by the pounds. SECRET on the trays. Spray them with cooking spray before each use and the will make clean up a third of the usual hassle. The Nesco brand, including the slicers are excellent and comfortably priced. Good Luck

  • Very good, affordable dehydrator

This dehydrator is very good for the price and comparable to more expensive dehydrators with regards to power, temperature adjustment, and performance. I primarily use it to dehydrate flowers and herbs for tea. The trays are easy to clean, the fan is relatively quiet, it dehydrates things evenly, and it is made in the USA. The only con is its lifespan. I bought one about 3 years ago and it ran great until the fan motor or thermal fuse burned out (hard to say which, both looked pretty toasted when I took it apart). That being said, I used the machine very heavily those three years, so probably these parts just wore out. It would be nice if it were easy to repair, but that's sadly not the case. To cover my bases, I purchased an extended (3 year) warranty this time around.

  • Does the job, and does it well!

Like all dehydrators, depending on what you are drying the grates can be difficult to clean. I imagine a dishwasher might be easier, but we don't have any other than ourselves. But it works well, isn't too loud, and it's dependable. I'd like to have several of them to be honest. You won't be disappointed, It's a good product at a good price!

  • Great product...but I am using it in a different way...

I actually bought this food dehydrator for my business (Outsidedown Productions). Among other things, I transfer analog audio and video tapes to digital. Occasionally, I run across analog tapes that will not play because they are stuck together after sitting for years of not being stored well...usually to much humidity instead of cool and dry. I bought this food dehydrator to 'bake' my tapes and temporarily restore them so I can make the transfer happen. I have used it and it works great! It has to be on for hours at a time, so the fact that it is pretty quiet is great. The temp setting is not very accurate though. I was warned about that however, so I bought a cheap temp gauge with a wire and probe. I stick the probe into one of the vent holes in the bottom and keep an eye on the temperature. It took about 15 minutes to reach 130 degrees F, and then it stayed pretty steady after I tweaked it a few times. I think it is a great product!

  • Dehydrator

Expandable dehydrator that I have successfully dehydrated food using up to 10 trays at one time, although the more trays the longer it takes as one may suspect. The unit seems to distribute heat evenly over the trays but dehydrates top trays first which are closest to the heat source. This works well since you can remove them as needed to allow lower trays to proceed. Top is not locked to trays so lifting the handle just lifts the top off, it will not lift the entire unit. You will need screens for each tray in order to dehydrate items such as frozen corn kernals, otherwise the kernals will fall through the trays. Often smaller items such as diced peppers or whatever will also fall through the trays as they become smaller unless you have the screens. A good product and I recommend it.

  • Big Difference !

I've been using my old dehydrator which I've had since the 80's still works but no fan,,,took 30 hours to make a batch of jerky, had to rotate and spin trays every so often,,,The Nesco Snackmaster Pro, takes me 5 to 6 hours no spinning or rotating trays,,,What can I say, been trying to figure out why I never got one sooner. If your thinking about getting a dehydrator this is the one to get.

  • Top Efficiency for Lowest Cost - All in One

This little devil is dynamite! Unlike most dehydrators it has the ability to control the temperature from 95F to 160F in increments. The top-down fan design is very efficient, the stacking trays nicely constructed and handy, and the sound from the fan motor is minimal and almost soothing, lgiving off a vaporizer-type sound, not a loud desk fan sound. The dehydrating ability is nice though I haven't timed it yet. I let it do its thing and when its ready, voila! Perfecto....

  • Great little dehydrator

Bought the Nesco food and jerky dehydrator as a gift for my wife for Christmas and she loves it so far she has dried tomatoes and even made some sweet potato chips which our two year old loves... She will also be making spinach chips, banana chips as well as kiwi chips... I would recommend this product to any friend and family member. Great price for an awesome dehydrator
