Samsung 870 EVO 2TB 2.5" SATA III 6GB/s SSD 560R/530W MB/s 98K/88K IOPS 900TBW 5yrs Wty The World s favourite SSD* The latest model of the world s best-selling SSD* series has finally arrived. The 870 EVO inherits the legacy of Samsung s pioneering SSD technology, boasting upgraded performance, reliability, and compatibility to suit the needs of anyone from contents creators, IT professionals, to everyday user. Excellence in performance The 870 EVO achieves the maximum SATA interface limit of 560/530 MB/s sequential speeds1. Everyday users can now enjoy professional-level SSD performance.
I purchased a 2TB Samsung EVO 870 SATA drive and it delivers on what it claims.
Samsung advertises the EVO 870 as being able to hit sequential read and write speeds of 560 and 530 MB/s, respectively. I'm running the 2TB EVO 870 in an old Dell 9010 and upon assessing its performance using CrystalDisk, I'm getting sequential read and write speeds of 564 and 533 MB/s, respectively. See the attached screen shot. So it's delivering exactly as promised!
Moreover, Samsung's "Data Migration Software" made it extremely easy to clone my existing Win 10 install on a 1TB SSD to this new larger 2TB SSD. Samsung's software even expanded the partition size to incorporate the extra space of the 2TB (if you clone a drive to larger drive, other software will often leave the additional capacity as unpartitioned space on the new drive).
However, the price of these drives is now increasing steadily though. With that being the case, if I were buying a 2TB SATA SSD today I would probably just grab a 2TB Crucial MX500, which also has a 5 year warranty.
This is a very good quality SSD however does not offer value for money at its premium price point. The speed of the drive is good however it does not always performance even close to the advertised speeds. When writing small files is will run very slow between 1 - 30MB/s.
