Great upgrade from EOS 50D
I have used the Canon 20D, 50D, and now the 80D. Couldn’t be happier. At first, the folding, rotating, touchscreen menu was a bit strange and seemed gimmicky, but the menu system is intuitive and the rotating screen may come in handy at some point. My only concern is the screen itself, as I tend to not be gentle on cameras during hikes, etc. Some of my old lenses have new life now, with the higher available ISO allowing more light in at acceptable noise levels, so low-light shots look nice. Fast autofocus is such a relief as my dying 50D was never too good at it. A variety of added features such as presets, HDR, and artistic effects probably aren’t necessary, by will be fun to try out. The wireless is a bit clunky to set up (a few sub menus to navigate) but not too bad for getting images straight to my iPhone. Best BANG for the money.... bar none.
The Best Camera Ever. Although there is a bit of a learning curve you will be rewarded. I have several Canon cameras and this is my favorite. It is easy to use once you learn how and the images are outstanding. My big lens's will Auto Focus with TeleConverters /using an f8 and center point AF without hunting. This camera will perform as well as the expensive models at a fraction of the cost. Using Touch Screen to change settings is so fast and easy....WOW. Great Camera.
This Camera is an upgrade for my old 10 Megapixel Canon XTi. This Camera is fantastic. Great Image quality, the controls are simple to master, and the WiFi while it has room for improvement is a nice touch. Great Camera for beginner to pro. Battery life is very good too. I cannot speak much of the Video because I’m primarily a still photographer. However again, the controls are simple and the ability to use an external microphone is a nice feature. Failure was not an option...
This is a big step up for me into a much more current camera from my old 20D. I am still getting used to all the features and functions, but my first shoot was a one time chance where failure was not an option. My youngest son was proposing to his girlfriend as a surprise and I am not sure if he was more nervous, or if I was. Anyway, it came off great with both video footage and stills all looking great. Little better than the canon 70D
Built on the same frame as the 70d, not much difference there... I sold my 70d so I could purchase the 80d... the biggest difference is the megapixels, 24.2MP compared to the 20MP on the 70d, and the 45-point cross type af system, compared to 19 point... so I can tell a difference in the autofocus, very quick, and picture quality is a little better...also 7 frames per second, a little better than the 70d in which was I believe 5 frames per second.... I am using my same lenses.... the sigma 18-35mm art lens is the best... great image and video quality... would be nice if this had 4k image quality, but this works well, I would recommend.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I recently added this Canon 80D as a perfect complement to my other camera gear. Having had a 70D for several years, I'm already appreciating the enhanced capabilities of its 80D successor. Great upgrade from Canon 80D
The improved CMOS processor with greatly extended ISO sold me on wanting to get this camera. If you’re familiar with other Canon DLSRs, it’s a snap to figure out how to use it. There are minor differences - power switch has moved, different battery and memory card form factor, so you have to replace all of your old gear if you’re migrating from a Canon 50D like me. What a camera
I have added this body to my camera bodies, as a newest and fastest shooting body. But what I wanted most, it was Wi-Fi and NFC ability. That is a AMAZING feature in the DSLR cameras. 24 MP and 7 frames per second is impress. The best is dual AF in this body, super fast and super accurate. With my lenses this is very good choice for any kind of photography. Even it is a crop sensor, still best camera I ever own. This is cheaper version of high end Canon's bodies. A lot of features packed into a compact, lightweight package
I bought this camera for my wife, so this is my view of her experience with it. We've both been shooting Canon APS-C (crop sensor) cameras for about 15 years. I've gone through a string of bodies, beginning with the 10D and moving through 20D, 40D, 7D and now 7D Mk II. She's been using the Rebel line until I bought her a 60D. She really likes the small size and lighter weight of the Rebels, but I've always felt they were too light on configurability, compared to the cameras I've been using. The 60D was a nice compromise between the two lines and the 80D is an even better approximation of the control I have in a small, lightweight body. As primarily wildlife photographers, we both appreciate the focal length bump that comes with the APS-C sensor - something that can be a liability for landscape or portrait photographers. In wildlife photography, we're always looking for the greatest reach in the most compact package, balanced against a high quality image. I've tried numerous compact cameras, which offer extreme focal lengths in very compact, easily portable units, but they have been very disappointing in the quality of the images they capture. The 7D Mk II and the 80D both offer auto-focus at f8 (with limitations), which gives us a big leg up on the previous cameras we've used in the long lens/lightweight kit department. Now my wife can mount a 2X extender on her 300mm f4 lens and have a 600mm (960mm equivalent with the cropping factor) lens in a size and weight she can handle - something that has never been available before. It's not a combination one would want to rely on too heavily, since the image quality and shooting percentage deteriorate with the slow aperture and doubler, but it offers options she's never had before. Besides the expanded auto-focus support, the 80D offers a lot of other configurability options that I've come to rely on in the 40D/7D/7D Mk II bodies I've been using, like 2 custom settings options in the mode dial (mine have 3, but 2 is usually adequate). Similarly, the menu offers a lot more control over the shooting experience. That said, there is a fairly steep learning curve with any of these cameras these days, and the expanded range of options I value makes the learning curve that much steeper.
