it's ok for a beginner
I took it to a luthier who replaced the pads, cleaned it up, ........and since it came without the mouth piece , ligature nor end plug I had to purchase them........ ............I' m just a beginning student and dont know everything about it yet, and when first played it, there was no sound on some of the keye.........also the sound was not normal and in key- - - - - but that's mainly because of my need to learn how to produce good tone............... In time I'll learn how to play, and also be able to rate the instrument.Verified purchase: Yes

It is reliable and relatively in tune. It gets the job done. Up till about advanced high school level. A higher end model will play even easier, and better in tune, and have a more beautiful sound . Great alto sax for the money.
YAS-23s are generally well-regarded as solid student instruments, and this one supports that reputation. This is a used horn, but well-maintained. Arrived safely packed, in perfect playing condition.
