Big improvement over prior generations, could be what you're looking for.

So, robot is going to robot, right? Various idiosyncrasies involved with this. First of all, the refurb is working great. No discernible issues with that status. But more or less issues with robotic vacuums. First though, the positives: 1. Much smarter than roombas of yore. With app integration, you can have it map out a home, and tell it to intelligently focus on specific areas. I told it to clean the living room yesterday and it went straight there to clean up Christmas tree needles. 2. App is pretty good. Robot is scary good at mapping out your home and providing a user editable/label-able map you can use/reference going forward. 3. Base vacuum - when it works - is a great feature so you don't have to incessantly empty the bin from the robot directly Negatives: 1. Legacy robot vacuuming annoyances. Robot *still* needs to stumble around in a grid fashion, bump into things, is loud, and can get easily clogged requiring intervention. 2. You need to keep a dedicated floor docking area clear for the robot's ingress/outgress. This is easier said than done, when other vacuums are shoved in closets or mounted on walls. 3. Clogs, clogs, clogs. Both robot and the base are susceptible to clogs that require human intervention. I'd really appreciate more Dyson-like engineering which makes it super easy and tool-less to empty common trouble areas. 4. Consumable parts are not cheap, whether just the base debris bags, replacement brushes, or filters. I wish it didn't feel like a racket. Cheaper 3P options are proliferating, but they aren't as good, and frankly Roomba seems to engineer against 3P options (e.g. bags). Anyway, this generation of robot is leaps and bounds better than the last time you checked into this (likely pre 2012). They are still loud and clog often, but clean better and more intelligently. At the end of the day, if you have a good manual vacuum, it's still way more efficient to just vacuum a room and be done with it. But if you like the idea of scheduling cleanings, or you want to maintain a property remotely, or you absolutely hate vacuuming, this is an interesting option.

    Good product so far.

It's nice to have it doing the work for me now. It's pretty easy to set up and it is easy to use. I did have to reset it back to factory and redo it again, only because I was having trouble with wi-fi connection from the iRobot app. Now it works perfectly. And it's nice that it has the Smart Map feature. I love using that. Good product so far. Just got it this week. One word of advice, make sure you set the base near your router for good wi-fi connection.

  • First Robot Vacuum

We have two cats and mostly solid surface floors. The i7 does a fantastic job of cleaning the floors, including the cat hair. I don't have any experience with any previous robotic vacuums, but the smart room mapping feature is awesome for setting up and scheduling quick, individual room cleanings and for setting up boundaries. The automatic dirt disposal is also extremely handy and basically allows us not have to come home to find the cleaning job hasn't finished due to the bin being full, which is the compliant we heard from friends who do not have the auto dirt removal. The price kept us from buying this for sometime, however I'm very happy we waited and went with the i7 plus.

  • Plusses & Minuses

Was hard to get the app set up. Very noisy. Seems to do a pretty fair job. I had a Shark Ion RV720 - random roaming type. It was quieter, shorter, but long hair seemed to constantly foul the floor brush. The Roomba doesn't get tangled with long hair and with it's 'smart' roaming, gets spots that the Shark wouldn't. Seems to take a long time to generate a 'map.' Shark had simple magnetic strips to keep it away from places you don't want it going, but Roomba has the rather expensive little 'posts' that are a hassle. You have to 'prep' your areas for both types - they will get themselves badly tangled in wires, strings, cloth, etc.

  • Just the best auto item i've bought. Keeps the floors dog hair free!!

the autoempty tower is absolutely the best feature of this system. we have a dog that sheds and I can't imagine having to empty the little bin every 30 minutes. I also got reusable bags for the tower on Etsy so I can empty the large bag and not keep throwing away bags.

  • Review of Roomba I 7+

I like the fact my carpets are regularly kept clean. I am using it on tile and carpet on two levels of my home. I do not use it on my main level’s dark hardwood due to friends who have had issues with scratching. Negative of Roomba is the vacuum marks are haphazard and I am used to being very precise in the patterns I leave when vacuuming. Roomba goes in circles in some places and straight lines in others. But the positives outweigh the one negative. I also like having the self emptying feature.

  • So far, so good!

I have had my Roomba i7 for about 2 weeks. I have mapped most of my home successfully although it takes several runs to "perfect" the mapping. Today I placed the Roomba in my Family Room and asked it to create the map for this room. After making a map, I asked Roomba to vacuum the room and it did 2 passes as I asked. However, when I thought it was done, it kept going to various places in the room and continued vacuuming. When I put it on pause and sent Roomba to Home, it could not find Home. Even though my home is not large, there must be limit to how far away Home and Roomba can be.

  • Great for hardwood, struggles with dog hair on carpet.

The whole reason we use these robot vacuums is to assist with the upkeep of dog hair from our GSD. In the main living spaces that are hardwood this does great, but unfortunately it leaves clumps of dog hair on the carpet in our bedroom and there doesn’t seem to be anyway to address the issue. Thankfully it came with a two year warranty because the left wheel failed after just two months. But the hair clumps continue. Sadly this replaced a Roborock S4 which broke down constantly, but also never had this issue. Seems we can’t win with trying to find a reliable but functional vacuum for us. Customer service is working with us now to address the issue but recalibrating and replacing brand new brushes isn’t likely to fix something that’s been an issue right out of the box.

  • I7 Roomba

The only issue I have is the battery life isn't that great, my house is around 2800sqft. It has to go back to the charger and charge for awhile. I love that the rollers don't get jammed up with hair or other stuff, it leaves lines on the carpet which is cool. I had an older version and I had to clean the rollers all the time, so I love how this 1 is way more less maintenance, but the trash bin is smaller then the previous models

  • Mostly Good

Pro: Powerful vacuum, does a good job of coverage, hasn't gotten stuck under a bed or couch yet, decent job of avoiding getting tangled up in cords and ribbons and when it did, it had the decency to stop working where I could find it. Con: the empty feature doesn't work reliably and almost nothing is getting into the bag...we've had it for a week and I've had to unclog the device twice...hoping it is a temporary thing
