  • A legacy lens

I have been a fan of Tamron lenses for almost a decade now, having the 24-70 f/2.8 VC and the 70-200 f/2.8 VC. The new generation of zooms (G2) are the best professional level values on the market today, outclassing their expensive Nikon counterparts. I started purchasing their new primes this past year, and the quality, value, sharpness, contrast and color rendition are second to none. I'm a professional who makes his living with glass, and I don't compromise. I own the 90 macro, the 35 f/1.8 VC SP and now the 45 f/1.8 VC SP. This lens has the best optical performance in a standard prime, bar none. I've shot them all: sigma art, Nikon, Zeiss, and the Tamron 45 outclassed them all. I bought mine for $399 new!!! Outrageous value. Contrast, sharpness, bokeh, autofocus and minimum focusing distance are incredible. Coupled with my Nikon D810, I am getting award winning images that are stunning, right out of camera. My advice: do not hesitate. You're welcome!

  • Tamron created a winner!

I've tried a number of 50mm (and near 50mm lenses) in my work from all of the major brands. They all have struggled to produce sharp images wide open or suffer from inconsistent auto focus... until I got my hands on Tamron's new 45mm prime with vibration compensation. Fully wide open at 1.8 the Tamron produces sharp images from corner to corner aided by the inclusion of vibration compensation built into the lens - something no other manufacturer even has bothered with on their 50mm offerings. The color saturation is brilliant and crisp. Yes, I love this lens. It's design is much stronger than the weakly built Canon 1.4. If you've owned the Canon 1.4 for any length of time you know how fragile the autofocusing mechanism is. You can't set that lens down on it's face without damaging the helicoil... I know it's a repair I've had to have done twice. While this lens is not 1.4 like the Sigma Art lens it does not suffer from the autofocus inconsistency issues that plague the Sigma. Art is nothing more than a word dreamed up by their marketing department to hype a lens that in my opinion can not compare to Tamron. Give the lens an honest try and I think you'll come to the same conclusion I have. This is the best of the 50's or near 50mm lenses.

  • Good value, better than any Canikonsony offerings.

Better IQ than all the "normal" formal length offerings from various big brands. VC allows me to shoot at 1/10. Some spherochromaticism wide open but easily fixable. Worth it especially with the discount.

  • Nice standard lens for Nikon FX.

I bought this after buying a TAMRON 15-30 F2.8. It came with a Tap In utility and dock as well. I am using this on a Nikon d850 and it works nicely. It is Made in Japan, has image stabilization (Tamron version called VC) and cost the same price than the Nikon 50mm F1.4 without IS Made in China. Any IS helps with 46 Mp so I went for the Tamron and I am so far not disappointed. the AF lock on is pretty fast and the lens is sharp enough for my eyes. Overall I would consider this a great buy. I am now considering the 35mm VC as well.

  • Love it

I'm not sure about all of the capabilities of this lens yet but I love it so far...I have several "fast" lenses, but honestly all of them are Tamron. So far this one is impressive, especially with portraits.

  • My favorite prime lens

A superb prime that does all that Tamron says it can do: excellent sharpness, solid build quality and really fine low light capabilities.
