If you enjoyed games like Hero Quest, Dungeon, Dungeons & Dragons (boardgames) and all the other dungeon crawler boardgames under the sun - then Descent: Journeys in the Dark will most likely quench your thirst for another crawler with a lot of replay value (lots of add ons to be had), great system and fun factor.
The miniatures are very good but I wouldn't say that they are the best quality - certainly not when comparing them to the likes of Games Workshop or CMON's minis. Furthermore, due to the way the minis are packed (altogether in one bag) several of mine were broken in an already brand new box. Obviously this can be fixed with modeling glue but that's really not the point when you buy something new. After contacting Fantasy Flight Games and notifying them, they were only too happy to replace the broken miniatures free of charge so props to them - but something tells me that they could just avoid this sort of thing altogether buy not cutting costs in their packaging(?). Having said all that - they are VERY good with lots of detail and you get a lot of them.
All other components are of fantastic durable quality.
The rules and system are easy enough to learn especially if one has played any sort of dungeon crawler type of board game before and I liked how Descent adds in the idea of leveling up your characters and specializing in their fields of expertise as the game progresses. Other great ideas is tailoring the amount and type of monsters/encounters there are due to the amount of players that are actually playing thus providing a decent/fun challenge.
Excellent quality mini, really ads to the atmosphere of the game.
Even if you don’t have the applicable expansion it still ads a level of immersion that’s worth the price.
