Legendary performance, gorgeously recorded, and luxuriously packaged.
The performances are near-definitive, energetic, articulate, well-balanced, and idiomatic. The recording is gorgeous. This Japanese import is expensive--a little too much so, but the packaging is luxurious; and even though these recordings are legendary, or nearly so, they are hard to come by. True lovers of Brahms should consider getting this set even at a somewhat high price and in spite of the program notes' being in Japanese.
