Turns some expensive maintenance into a DIY project
My recently purchased 2007 VW Touran is in remarkable condition for its age and had a comprehensive service history, but I could find no record of the vital DSG oil and filter change, needed every 40,000 miles. Now at 97,000 miles, this was a major concern. It still drove well but I couldn't risk a gearbox failure. The cost for a DSG service at VW was not very palatable so as I normally do my own maintenance I was relieved to find this kit on eBay at an excellent price, providing all the officialy recommended oil and filter required. I studied the procedure, bought the kit and a special tool for refilling the oil, and set about the work. This is much more challenging than a simple engine oil change and requires some specific tools, including an oil pump and access to a laptop running software able to monitor the gearbox oil temperature, as well as the filler adapter. However, with this kit it simplifies the process, and includes a new oil drain plug and two sealing rings. It was not entirely straightforward but with the oil refilled to the correct level, the process was complete. Fortunately the old oil showed no signs of metal particles or significant contamination, but when driving the car afterwards, the difference was obvious and dramatic. Gear selection no longer causes any reaction, and gear changes are now smooth, extremely fast and almost imperceptible. Maybe not a job for the feint hearted, but if you have the tools, time and experience to do this yourself, it is definitely worthwhile, and far cheaper than repairing or replacing the DSG! I can highly recommend this kit, and would not hesitate to buy this again if necessary.
