The VeloCompact looks great and with the light panel included its a safer option for caring bikes.
However, we just went on a family holiday driving from Canberra to Brisbane and back and found that the bikes move in two ways.
The stabilising bar folds no matter how tightly the bikes are attached and the stabilising bar is tensioned. We ultimately had to tie the bar to our tow bar with an Octopus Strap to prevent this from happening.
The second way the carrier moves is on the towball. After a while the the carrier will slowly start moving side to side on the ball. I had to stop and re-tension the carrier 3 times on the way back from Brisbane. This meant completely unloading and reloading the bikes on the trailer. Its a bit of a hassle...
Lastly, its worth pointing out that most of the fittings on the carrier are plastic... I was always worried that Id over tighten something and it would break.
Also, the lever mechanism that attaches the carrier to the tow ball is not strong either, I was worried it would break if overtightened. I think the model below this one has a better system for this tensioning.
Overall, I can't recommend this for travelling long distances or off road, but it would be fine around town.
