A great trimmer with a couple of caveats.
Very robust, great tool. High speed is very powerful---use protective eyewear!!!!!(and a pair is included---nice, Makita!) Comes with twisted line, great cutting of tough stuff. Low speed is actually fine for most stuff. Homeowners don't need anything more powerful or heavier line----leave that to the pros. Easy to load the spool, and it advances easily with a tap to the ground (have not tried the saw yet...). Some assembly quirks, but nothing major. The cons: On high, the battery runs down faster than I expected. Luckily I am an all Makita guy, so I have batteries. But I was a little surprised, so don't use high unless you have to, and if you don't have an extra battery better get one, especially if you have a lot of trimming to do. Second, the connection point for the strap isn't in the best place for balancing the tool, and there is no way to adjust that. I think I might try counter-weighting the trimmer shaft. Finally, too bad it doesn't come with the wider guard.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Makita Powerhead is Great and well made with big, solid, center shafts.
Very well made. Solid Center Shafts, so could use a brush-cutter saw blade to trimmer without worries of snapping thin cable in cheaper made models. I believe the trimmers is is lasting about 15 Min with 5MAh batteries in very lite grass and weed trimming. The saw attachment is excellent and cuts really well. The saw attachment does have a little whine to it, but nothing like an actual gas saw. You could open a window with radio on, and have a few small trees fall over at night without any suspicion. Atlanta has tree cutting restrictions that are subject to fines. Great product.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Good Power/Weight Ratio, Great Performance!
A great combo kit from Makita! With just the single 18 volt battery this one is significantly lighter than the 2X battery power heads, but of course with a shorter run time and somewhat less power. That's the trade-off, weight versus power and run time, but this one is a fine compromise for general use. Both the string trimmer and pole saw work great! Do not buy Polesaw
