When it comes down to it, best 3 season tent out there!!
I did a lot of research on tents before buying the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. A little story 1st....I went on a backpacking trip to summit Mt. Adams (not knowing it was the day the whole west coast caught on fire on September 7th, 2020). I found myself stuck in a dangerous wind storm with all the smoke flowing in from west coast wildfires. I had pitched my tent at the lunch counter base camp and we had to pack up camp when 80-100 mph winds hit us. I went to un-stake my tent and my beloved REI quarter dome tent flew away like a kite in the wind. When I got home I started searching deeply for a replacement. It was about time to upgrade anyways since my tent was about 8 years old and almost 6 lbs. My buddy had just bought the copper spur hd ulv2 so it was on my radar. A 2 person tent, around 3 lbs. complete weight. A lot of people want to go lighter than that, but I still wanted some comfort and space. It has the 2 doors, 2 large vestibules. It has a huge cubby to store things at the foot end, pockets at all 4 corners and a pocket right above your head. Tons of storage for gear! It has loops where you need it. The fly clips in and really easy to tighten. For only being 3 lbs. it has all the bells and whistles, protects you well. The tent in heavy rain will still keep you pretty dry, but things won’t be 100% always. I feel that’s just nature though. I just slept in it on snow and it rained through the whole night, with a footprint and polycro below the tent. Some snow soaked through the flooring on a few edges, but I believe if it was only raining, it would have been completely dry. The walls were not damp which is amazing. We also had the upper cent open, and you can’t help but get a little rain spray, if rain is blowing sideways. That’s just science. The stow bag is really thin material. I must’ve caught it on a rock so I already have had to use some tenacious tape on it, but it makes sense with keeping things light. It is a More expensive tent, so you have to stay conscious and baby it a little, but you’ll love this tent so much it’ll be a labor of love. Get this tent, you won’t regret it. It is the best choice for all round, comfort, amenities and still light enough to get you deep in the back country.
