Spectacular sound reproduction
I use this RODE 'Video-Mic" to receive specific sounds on my daughters Volleyball team during tournaments for downloading her videos onto her scholarship website. It was presented to me by others, that I could improve the videos with sound,(of which I was leaving out... to me, it was incredibly, distracting) so this could allow College Scouts to hear my daughter give commands on the court (she, being a libero) It was critical to hear her voice. Me, being somewhat close to the action 10-15 ft. (usually), I was able to pick up her voice commands much easier with this shotgun mic arrangement, than with my standard mic, on-board the GOPRO. It works great isolating all the extraneous sounds (latterly) and receiving good quality sound from (in my case), My daughters voice in front of me. I actually modified the mic slightly with the use of a cardboard piece placed on the sides of the mic (somewhat like 'barn-doors" on studio lighting which toned down the side sounds to almost zero. all the video is shot indoors, so I never use the "dead-cat" but I have used it, on different occasions with perfect results, of no wind noise. Super simple to use, just plug it in to the GoPro mic adapter since it uses the cameras battery system and great sound lays on the sound track of the video. this mic. is extremely tough, through being well built, (all aluminum case), A very good value for my specific application, ~ $ 50.00.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Small pkg with Big results
I purchased this unit for use with my DJI OSMO as well as my other DSLR cameras. I needed a compact Mic that would provide quality sounds in outdoor or crowded environments where sound control is needed. It isnt the perfect option, but in this price range, you shouldnt be expecting perfection. But you are certainly getting more than you are paying for, andthat seems to be something to count on when looking at Rode products. This is not a pwered unit, and that allows it to be very compact. It is quite small when you are looking at the housing of the unit alone. Adding the buffer does change the imprint, but it is worth it. The coiled cable is a life saver and greatly appreciated. On my OSMO, this mic still records some of the fan noise of the camera, but nothing that cannot be addressed in post production, or addressed by repositioning the mic further away from the camera itself. Depending on how it is mounted will dictate how much, if any noise will be present. Compact and affordable. The icing on the cake is the quality of the sound for a unit that is under $100. Nice Pro Mic for the price
I have liked it so far. Is very easy to use, portable and the audio is excellent. One thing I dislike is that the mic holder -which is made of some kind of plastic and rubber, this to absorb any noise coming from the camera- is very flexible and makes the mic to move a lot. Best Vlogging and Run n' Gun Video Mic
If you have a new mirrorless camera the sound from this microphone is great plugged straight into the mic port. You will have to turn down the gain in the volume settings, so your levels aren't clipping. I've also tried it in a canon t4i, but the audio quality wasn't good because of the preamp. I use mine with a panasonic g7 which is a great budget 4k camera. No complaints. Good sound indoors and outdoors. I just leave the dead cat on. Rich sounds with limitations
The sound quality is very rich but fairly directional and limited in the distance it records well. Great outdoor filming in close proximity in front of the camera. Real use experiences with my Rode Compact mic.
The Rode Micro Compact Mic is as good as the on camera mic. I have a Sony A6400 and the on camera mic records very well. So I could say that the Rode Mic is very good. What you are actually getting is the "dead cat" wind muffler which will, in most cases, reflect the wind waap waap for reasonable wind movement. My first experience in using the Rode was at the Strasburg railroad in Lancaster area of Pennsylvania while making movies of the N&W steam locomotive 611. The day was beautiful, but the wind was at least 10 to 15 miles an hour and the wind noise drowned out the steam engine chuff which usually is loud, but not the whistle so when I edited the movie on Adobe, I had to borrow sound tracks from other shoots to combat the wind noise by replacing sound tracks. I suspect that excess wind will disrupt even the best and most expensive of mic protectors.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Rode Video Micro Mini Microphone with Dead Cat
I purchased this mini external microphone for use with my Sony HDR AS20 handy cam and I'm very impressed with it so far. This mike does not require batteries - just plug in and start recording. Picks up sound from the front and sides of the mike, so don't talk too loud while recording. Sound quality is clear & good but doesn't pick up lower (bass notes) very well. Compact Video Rose Mic
Audio is great and I can use it with multiple devices. It is built very well and can take a beating if you drop it etc. The reason I gave 4 starts and not 5 is sometimes when I’m speaking and my voice raise too loud the audio cracks when playing back.
