A coming of age story
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a coming of age story for the Y2k generation. Every character in the series is well drawn, relatable, and it doesn't matter if they are the "good guys" or the "bad guys" every character is well rounded and a representation of the kaleidescope that is humanity. The backdrop of good vs evil is timeless, yet the creators and directors of the series bring a modern lense to this classic trope that is at once engaging and comforting in its familiarity. Horrible Picture Quality!
I have to give this 20th Anniversary Buffy set 3 stars...which as a hardcore and avid Buffy fan feels a little like a betrayal to the show for me! lol But the picture quality on the discs so far (I've watched into season 2 of 7 so far) are SO bad. Nothing has been digitally remastered. They are fuzzy, there is grit and snow in most of it. I mean, I was going for nostalgia when I bought the set, I just didn't think the picture quality was the same as 20 years ago when I was watching with rabbit ears on TV. But it is really that bad. Blu ray and HD has me spoiled these days, I suppose. And the audio is just your basic surround sound, nothing fancy. I do like the re-vamped cover art, menu screens, and the box set packaging is very cool and convenient. They just really need to make a blu ray quality, digitally remastered, upgrade for picture quality. You can see and hear the story line in a very basic capacity, but that's about all I can say for the quality of the DVDs. A lighthearted take on the darker side of vampire slaying
I grew up watching this show and often enjoy going back to watch things reminding me of my early years. Yes some of the stories and effects are cheesy compared with todays films and technology, but for me it is about story line and nostalgia. I am thoroughly entertained and occasionally binge this series for a trip down memory lane. If you like witty banter and action in a dark sort of way, I would recommend this series. Lovely set, with some technical problems.
The DVD set was nicely packaged, and very cool; it was obviously sealed and brand new as advertised, but I've watched 2 or 3 of the discs so far and every one had some freeze-frame glitches on several episodes, and strange places where they abruptly cut several seconds off a scene (obvious from the interruption of dialog, etc). The discs look perfect, so I don't know where the freeze-frame comes from, but it's very disconcerting and messes up the enjoyment of the show a lot. Disappointing that the production of this set apparently had these problems; I've read many similar stories online, but who can tell if someone just got a bad set or something.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A heroine for the ages!
The discs themselves are in perfect condition and play flawlessly. The format for playing them is awkward as I have to go back to the main menu every time an episode ends and I want to play the next episode; I took a star off for this, but I think the show is great.
