The Thing is a science-fiction film based on the film produced in 1951 by Howard Hawks, which was based on the short story by John W. Campbell. The alien wakes up and takes over the identities of the scientists one-by-one, and helicopter pilot MacCready (Kurt Russell) must differentiate real people from the alien. The DVD comes with special features, including the "John Carpenter's The Thing: Terror Takes Shape" 80-min documentary, stop motion animation cut from the film, and theatrical trailers.
