Elvis stars as tough-but-tender singer Charlie Rogers, a singer who believes he has finally found a steady job at Maggie Morgan's (Barbara Stanwyck) carnival. To Maggie, popular Charlie is a way out of her financial difficulties. Trouble brew, however, when Charlie begins a romance with Cathy Lean (Joan Freeman), and Cathy's carnival supervisor brother, Joe (Leif Erickson), disapproves. Charlie attempts to take his talent elsewhere, but his business with Joe and Cathy isn't finished yet... Raquel Welch makes her screen debut in a bit part as a college girl.
