About this product

Product Information

Director David Lynch returns to the Pacific Northwest territory that helped to change the face of television in 1990, making him a household name all across America. A predecessor to that series, FIRE WALK WITH ME recounts the final week in the life of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), a sparkling teenager who finds herself caught up in a seedy underworld and is eventually murdered. As Laura abuses cocaine and performs sexual favors for a series of shady characters, she also must balance her day-to-day affairs, which include a best friend, Donna (Moira Kelly), an ex-boyfriend, James (James Marshall), and her parents, Leland (Ray Wise) and Sarah (Grace Zabriskie). Screenwriters Lynch and Robert Engels raise more questions than they answer, keeping the film's mystery ambiguous even by the film's conclusion. While this will most certainly appeal to die-hard fans of the series, it isn't necessary for the viewer to have any prior knowledge of the characters in order to follow the story line, for Lynch's unique vision is enough to keep audiences engaged even when they aren't able to put the pieces together. Haunting, humorous, and strange, FIRE WALK WITH ME is another work of artistry from the mind of David Lynch.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is a striking and brilliant piece of film art

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is a 1992 psychological horror film directed by David Lynch and written by Lynch and Robert Engels. It serves as a prequel to the television series Twin Peaks (1990–1991), created by Mark Frost and Lynch, who were also executive producers. The film revolves around the investigation into the murder of Teresa Banks (Pamela Gidley) and the last seven days in the life of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), a popular high school student in the fictional Washington town of Twin Peaks. Most of the television cast reprised their roles for the film; notable exceptions include Lara Flynn Boyle and Sherilyn Fenn, due to scheduling conflicts. Boyle's character Donna Hayward was instead recast with Moira Kelly. Kyle MacLachlan, who starred as Special Agent Dale Cooper in the series, was reluctant to return out of fear of getting typecast, which resulted in a smaller presence in the film than originally planned. Fire Walk with Me initially received negative reviews in the United States but has been met with a more positive reception in subsequent years, with some critics viewing it as one of Lynch's major works. Although it has long been reported that Fire Walk with Me was greeted at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival with booing and jeers from the audience, co-writer Robert Engels denies that this event ever happened. The film was a box office bomb in the United States, although it fared much better in Japan. David Lynch said in advance of the third season of Twin Peaks, Twin Peaks: The Return, that Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is essential viewing to understand the third season. I thought Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me was very engaging. As some of the cast expressed in the accompanying documentary, it didn't include some of the wry, quirky humor of seasons one and two of Twin Peaks. But how could it - dealing in incest and death? The ending was very striking, but I won't give it away.

Interesting - But it doesn't answer many questions

For Twin Peaks fans that want to know what happened after the show ended, this movie will not satisfy their curiosity, It is, in fact, a "prequel" - dealing with (but not explaining) the events leading up to Laura Palmer's death. Perhaps the most shocking thing is to have someone other than Lara Flynn Boyle play the part of Donna. Moira Kelly adequately portrays Laura's best friend Donna in the Fire Walk with Me movie, but the substitution is jarring. Fans of Sheryl Lee will not be disappointed, however, as Laura Palmer is featured much more prominently.

  • A powerful tour de force from director Lynch!

If you were fascinated by the Twin Peaks series then you must see this movie. It is a prequel to the events in the TV series and explains and illustrates a lot of the happenings that were only alluded to or partially explained. It is much more graphic, however, so I would not recommend this movie for anyone under age 15 unless it is watched with a parent or guardian. It is probably the most graphic, and gut-wrenching depiction of incest I've seen and, in case you are wondering, manages to do this without sinking into pornography. Incestuous rape is shown for what it is - an act of terrible violence and complete betrayal. There are elements of the film that touch on the supernatural, or even psychotic, so it can be unsettling for sensitive viewers. Having mentioned all of these caveats I will close by emphasizing my belief that this movie is one of the all time greats, and is probably the masterpiece of a talented director and writer.

  • People gone very bad!

It's a rather sad look at the worst elements of human behavior. Drug addiction and prostitution to support this addiction. Incest and finally, murder. Not sure what David Lynch had in mind when making this movie, but it shows people at their worst.

  • Amazing movie for a stellar series!

A hauntingly beautiful installment of the series, Fire Walk With Me will leave you stunned upon every rewatch. Despite typical reviews, Twin Peaks is not just as comforting as slice of cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee. It's a town rotting from the inside out---a force to be reckoned with past dimensions and death. After the eerie but dreamy vibe to the original Twin Peaks show, Fire Walk With Me throws you into the horrors of Twin Peaks and Laura Palmer's final days. This movie will always be my favorite segment of the series!! Sheryl Lee is PERFECT, as we all know ;D

  • A must for fans of twin peaks

For anyone who was or is a fan of David lynch and Mark frost's twin peaks t.v. series this movie is a must. A prequel to the first run of the show it gives answers and leaves questions in that quirky twin peaks style. Not going into much, don't want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't seen it.
