Hayao Miyazaki's CASTLE IN THE SKY is a rousing adventure that follows an orphan named Sheeta as she eludes the clutches of a secret agent named Muska while trying to discern her family's history. After her first escape from Muska, Sheeta meets up with a young boy named Pazu, whose father, a photographer, was disgraced after he took a picture of the legendary flying island of Laputa and had it dismissed as a hoax. When the two realize that a family heirloom Sheeta carries allows them to levitate, the two begin a search for the lost island, trailed by Muska, who is also searching for Laputa.

    Fun action, beautiful cel animation, and a decent English dub

    Fun action, beautiful cel animation, and a decent English dub. This was my first time watching Castle in the Sky. It was good to find a decent-quality English Ghibli dub. I was told that the 2003 dub was better than the 2010 one, so I bought this copy to give the movie a watch with the best light possible. The last and only other time I watched a Ghibli movie was a poor-quality dub of Ariety that made its way to the local library. The dialog was slow and awkward and really off-put me to the Ghibli collection at an early age. I'm glad older me gave these classics a second chance though. Watched it with the family and they all thought it was cool. My little sister is into drawing fan art of anime characters and at the end, she asked, "So this was all hand-drawn without any computers?" She hadn't seen a lot of the pre-digital anime and thought that this looked gorgeous but couldn't imagine how long it took the animators to craft each frame of the two-hour movie.

    DVD was in rough condition. I doubt it was tested beforehand. I wasn't able to play it in my main dvd player, but was able to make it through the movie (barely) with another player, so not a total loss. Great movie nonetheless.

    Product Came In Great Condition

    I found no problems with the disc or the case, everything came in good condition. The film itself is beautiful and elegantly made, I highly recommend it. In case you were wondering, this is the better version of the movie, as the newer one contains less dialogue and soundtrack.

    The better version I think.

    If you're thinking of buying this movie, I hope you know about the debate between this version and the newer version, just to make sure you get the one you want most. Basically this one has a newer orchestrated soundtrack and some lines of dialog added in when the characters aren't on screen to make things a little more entertaining. The newer version has the original digital score and cut out a lot of the added dialog. I like this one best because the score is so much more moving and some of our favorite lines to quote are the one liners that Disney added in. So, make sure to get the one you'd like best.

    Castle in the Sky is a masterful work of art!

    +JMJ "Castle in the Sky" (or "Laputa") is one of Miyazaki's best films and my personal favorite. The characters and the plot are engaging; the music and the visuals are stunning. This is a fantasy/adventure film, but on account of its high quality a classic film in every respect. In this critic's perspective, it deserves a place among the greatest films of all time.

    A kind of magic.

    I personally grew up on the re-worked soundtrack that this version features, I have many fond memories of watching the Studio Ghibli marathon on TCM back in the day. This is my favorite Ghibli movie.

The two go on an adventure meeting sky pirates, agents, and living statues. Together they go on a search for the legendary floating castle Laputa.
