UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK is part of MTV's "Unplugged" series. Sadly, MTV Unplugged stands as Nirvana's last album. While it's an album of covers and old songs, it ranks as one of the band's most cohesive records.

NotesVinyl LP pressing of this live release from the Grunge heroes. Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged is a watershed document that presents a band at the peak of it's powers. Unlike any other unplugged affair, the diverse album is not a simple stripped-down regurgitation of greatest hits or a cash-it-in set of nostalgic favorites. Rather, the live effort is among the most emotionally naked spectacles ever released an album so starkly intense and profoundly personal, it's impossible not to get chills down the spine. The set list is as surprising as the stylistic makeover. Save for renditions of 'All Apologies' and 'Come As You Are', the adventurous material includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets' 'Lake of Fire', 'Plateau', and 'Oh Me' as well as harrowing versions of David Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold the World', and the Vaselines' 'Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam'.

    Nirvana's finest album.

The album arrived clean, with good manufacturing. Recording is very smooth, delicate and sharp but not harsh, just full of talent and a great capture of a live event. I though I was sitting near front row with this mastered pressing in a heavy 180g. More dynamic range, PRaT and far better source than the original CD played in a top-of-the-line Classé player. No skips, tics or pops, deep bass, sharp vocals, hole centered, perfect shape. CD was close sounding but beat by a Ortofon OMP20 in a basic 1985 TT. This album will only sound better in a new upper-end TT. Enjoy the music.

    Good quality,poorly packaged.

The packaging was very unthought out. Tape was put directly on the vinyl cover and peeled off parts of the cover art when being gently removed. No reason to have had the tape in the location that it was. Very obvious that it would damage the record upon opening.

  • So GOOD on Vinyl

This is my favorite album, but I've only had it in the digital format in the past. Finally getting into Vinyl, and I wanted this album to be the maiden voyage for the first record played on the new system... did not disappoint. Everything has a much warmer tone and resonance and bass seems so much clearer and smooth. Highly recommend this to any Nirvana fan out there. It's my Go-To.

  • Pure Greatness

What can I say. I recently dusted off my vintage stereo system and this was one of the first new records I bought. Can't go wrong with Kurt unplugged. I love anything live and broken down into acoustic anyway. Sounds awesome. Price was right too great listen from start to finish.

  • One of the best albums of the 90s

Was never a big fan of Nirvana back in the 90s but always enjoyed them. Recently purchased “Unplugged” on vinyl and WOW, what a great record.

  • Excellent!

Better than other Pallas edition. This one has not "whoosh" noise between songs on side A (as the Pallas black vinyl edition). Great sound!

  • Great Piece of History

Nirvana put out only 3 studio albums so this is important in really getting to know the band.

  • Sound quality is pretty damn good through my 1964 Sansui reciever/Amp. Using a 1980's Sony turntable.
