Reviews5 stars out of 5 - "...The most incident-packed of his '70s releases: you're never more than 2 minutes away from a crescendo or a beautiful interlude..."
This is a 2009 re-mix of the 1973 LP.
The first side is note perfect. The second side seems to have phrases chopped out and The (first) Sailors Hornpipe it a cut & shut job. The Bonus Track is some orchestral arrangement of the middle of side 2, and then we come to the Vivian Stanshall intro in all it's glory, with a cut & shut of the Hornpipe again.
This CD seems to have lost the magic of the original 1973 release due to it's cut & shut nature. Even though it's all there, it has been chopped up and re-assembled with some of the wrong pieces put in the wrong places, just to complete the disc.
The original LP runs in a particular sequence for a reason, The idea is, it is supposed to take you through a journey of sound which tells a story. On this version, you seem to get lost along the journey, take a few shortcuts, lose your way a few times and then eventually arrive at the destination twice.
IMO, this is an abomination of the original masterpiece. But it for laugh.
Purchased for my dad. He had the original cassette tape. Thought would be a nice Xmas gift. CD is great. Small crack in case but that could have happened in transit. Still in plastic so is new. THank you.
As I'm an older person, the tracks were not quite what i remembered from way back but the quality was good. Maybe my tastes have changed a little, But thanks
