I had seen this film before in Imax 3-D & thoroughly enjoyed it & wondered how I would like it a second time around on my TV. While I missed the fascinating imagery of the 3-D photography, I was delighted to find myself savoring the movie in different ways. First and foremost, I was able to concentrate on the major characters more as my attention was not diverted by the spatial effects and was won over by them and the story. As a cinema history buff, I found Hugo charming and enlightening as it told the story of one of moviedom's. early pioneers in a very entertaining way. The focus of the story is of a young boy who is has a broken life mended as he helps mend the lives of others. For those who like a heartwarming story that is not maudlin, this might be just for you. And speaking of the historical aspect, the accompanying special features also delves into the story of Georges-Jean Méliès to an even greater degree. Lastly, the 4k picture is a joy to behold.
