I was seven years old when I played a friend's Nintendo for the first time. Castlevania was game I played, and it blew me away. Until that point, my video game experience was limited to Odyssey, Intellivision, and Atari. This was way beyond any simplistic game on those platforms. The sound and music theme gave a whole new dimension to the video game experience. The music was the what stuck with me, and echoed through my thoughts for weeks after. The graphics and color were also a huge leap from what I was used to. The Sprite animation, and enemy interaction, especially the bosses, made the game so hard to put down. The frustration level was always overcome by the desire to hit that continue option, and receive more abuse on the part of the game designers, who were maniacal geniuses. And make no mistake, this game is hard, but is clearly designed to make you want to come back and try to push past your prior failures. You will get frustrated with this one, but you will also find it difficult to resist the urge to come back later and try to surpass your previous best. If your good enough you will eventually start doing speed runs. I love Castlevania. It was my first foray into the NES experience, and opened me up to a love for the series and many other titles in the 8 and 16 but eras. If you are a nostalgia nerd like me or just want a good challenge, you will love this game. If you are a collector, well I don't think I need to tell you. You already own this one, most likely.
This is one of my favorite NES games and while I was born in the late 90's I hold great appreciation for older games. The challenge is just right, having that typical challenge that NES games are notorious for, and the controls are tight and responsive so if you die it's all because of you. The graphics are appealing using a lot of blues and oranges to create contrast from the foreground. Killing stuff with your whip is so satisfying and knowing what secondary weapon to bring for each boss fight is essential. Castlevania is the game that made vampires cool and deserves a place in any NES collection!
Love this game. The graphics, while dated, are great for NES standards, and the gameplay is awesome. Not only that, all my favorite horror cliches are packed in there. I do have my gripes like the stuff control, the easy to drain lifebar, and the Knock-back. My God, the Knock-back! Either way, very satisfying game. Highly recommended it to both horror fans and video game fans.
This game is a true classic. It's fun, frustrating and part of my childhood. I love it has 3 different endings, and l have yet to finish them all. It looks like a good night for nostalgia.
I really like this game because this game is a great game. The game is very compelling and the graphics are great. I give this game a 5.0 rating because this is a fun game to play. Thanks for mailing me this game.
Great PRG1 cart! Perfect for speedrunning. The original cart with the round black seal we call in the speedrunning world the crash cart. due to too many sprites on the screen in level 5 and 6. This cart runs beautifully and I ran it down to 11mins 41seconds.
Took a while to get it working but finally got it. First play through there was no music only sfx. Reset game and problem resolved. Hey, its a 30 year old game, what do you expect? Product arrived on time. Im satisfied.
Game works great. It was little stubborn to get to work, but with a little bit of cleaning, I got it to work good again. Just keep in mind with one thing. This game is hard.
