Experience a virtual space reality traveling through the galaxy to different dimensions with a new R-90 spaceship while searching for the Bydo mother ship. "R-Type III: The Third Lightning" is a shooter video game for play on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This game is rated E for Everyone with mild fantasy violence. Build up those quick reflexes while protecting Earth from an evil empire. Keep an eye on enemy ships along the way as they charge forward in a group only to be joined by faster approaching ships from multiple angles. Remember to keep the R-90 under control to avoid striking the walls when entering space tunnels. "R-Type III: The Third Lightning" for the SNES is the first game in the series to allow players to choose between three forces. As players collect force pods, they can select from different weapons. The Round Force, the Shadow Force, and the Cyclone Force all give new enhancements and abilities to the player. The developers refined the weapons with the standard wave cannon. When the player charges this cannon to full strength, the result is an extremely powerful beam that goes through all enemies. You can also take down obstacles with this beam. Switch to hyper mode and turn your wave cannon into a hyper-wave cannon. Supercharge the cannon and develop a rapid-fire ability, which creates devastating explosions. Collect some bits and spin the ship around with a force field of energy. Be careful with this ability because hyper mode can cause your ship to overheat. You can prevent that from happening by spending time cooling down. During the cooldown period, you will not be able to use the wave cannon. This game for the SNES, just like the rest of the games in the R-Type series, is known to be extremely difficult to beat yet fun and challenging to play. These games require a lot of strategy in order to survive. This is not one of those games that will allow you just to spray bullets wherever you want. There are no adjustments for difficulty, and the game gets harder as the levels progress. The only breaks the player receives are checkpoints, which allow you to avoid going all the way back to the first level upon defeat. As difficult as R-Type III is, it is also extremely addicting. The SNES version of "The Third Lightning" is one of the harder-to-find games in the series and is considered a rare find. "R-Type III: The Third Lightning" for the SNES is available in America with some variations from the original Japanese version. The main difference is that in the American version, one of the bosses fires giant eyeballs instead of clear sacks. Otherwise, the overall gameplay is the same.Use an extremely precise controller and challenge yourself with "R-Type III: The Third Lightning." Blast off and strike the evil Bydo Empire!
The second and final installment of R-Type on the super Nintendo, and the final installment of R-Type on a Nintendo Console, R-Type III sends the series off with in a blaze of glory. Featuring an impressive soundtrack, great graphics, and brutal difficulty, R-Type III is considered by many to be the finest in the franchise; myself included. Series staple shmup gameplay returns, as polished as ever, and for the first time, the player is offered their choice of Force (a biomechanical weapon system unique to R-Type), each bringing its own different types of lasers and independent functionality, adding a depth to the gameplay that previous R-Types didn't really have. Since there are essentially three different styles for the player to master, the replay value of R-Type III is pretty high. Unlike "bullet hell" style shooters, the player ship in R-Type is very rarely ever outmatched in terms of firepower, but instead, the sheer number of enemies, difficulty of the bosses, and design of the stage is what gives the archetypal R-Type its difficulty - do you have what it takes to put the hurt on the Bydo Empire? The lesser gamer need not apply, as the R-Type franchise has its own definition of "fair". Beginners may find the gameplay too difficult to make it past even the first stage, but those who stick with it, determined to see it through to the end will discover a sense of pride that can come only from having bested a shoot-em-up. The hefty price tag this game commands is probably a turn off to all but the most seasoned collectors, but if you ever manage to find it for a price you feel fits your budget, you'll find it to be worth every penny.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
