About this product

Product Information

The Breville Cafe Roma ESP8XL is a 5-cup, pump-driven espresso machine with a stainless steel finish. The Breville Cafe Roma machine comes with two stainless steel espresso cups and a milk frothing pitcher so that only ground espresso coffee and water is needed to begin making espresso right away. Add milk and this machine can make cappuccinos, lattes, and other coffee beverages as well. The dial control selects between three settings: standby, espresso, and steam. The ESP8XL has a heating indicator light on the front top. This light glows orange as the machine is heating up, then turns off when the temperature and pressure are ready to make espresso. The indicator light will cycle on and off as shots are pulled and the pressure and heat rebuild for the next espresso shot. The 40.58-ounce water tank is large enough to make five cups of espresso with enough water left to steam milk. When it is time to refill the water tank, a clear sight glass allows for easy and accurate filling. The Cafe Roma’s water tank sight window even has a floating water level indicator to make it easy to see when water is needed. The water tank is also removable, which allows for easy filling, cleaning, and drying. The Breville Cafe Roma ESP8XL has a warming tray integrated into the machine’s top, and uses the boiler heat to warm up to six espresso cups when the machine is in use. This espresso machine’s cup warming tray is good for making multiple espresso shots or coffee drinks, and is also a convenient place to store espresso cups when the machine is idle. The Breville Cafe Roma ESP8XL also has a removable drip tray to catch espresso or water drips and make clean-up of the tray simple and quick. The included frother is an accessory that fits over the steam wand and makes it easy to produce silky milk foam. The steam wand can be used with or without the froth enhancer, so a wider range of steamed milk espresso drinks can be prepared. Another feature is the machine’s double-wall filter

Little Breville good for beginners and office

I own a Breville dual boiler (BES920XL) and love it. So I decide to buy a smaller Breville for my office. This little good pump machine is compact, easy to use and ideal as an extra espresso machine for your office. For those new to the Breville brand the ESP8XL has a few extra cleaning steps than other conventional brands doesn't need. After each espresso the machine drips water to a reservoir in the base. The reservoir needs to be empty and rinse every three to four days depending on the use. For those than doesn't care about this extra step this is the perfect machine. Espresso quality is not as good as my BES920XL but is better than any other comparable brand in size. This is the perfect Espresso maker for the beginners and those who needs and extra machine at work.

    great tasting luke warm coffee

My only complaint is that the coffee is luke warm 98% of the time. If you want hot coffee you have to wait 10 to 15 minutes. The machine makes great tasting coffee with a thick foam on top. the steamer works differently than other espresso machines I have owned. If you follow the directions on how to steam, water is introduced into your milk. I do feel it is a quality made machine. If the coffee were to come out HOT on the first brew I would be in love with this machine, but since I have to wait up to 15 minutes for hot coffee I will not be purchasing this brand again.

  • Best Period

I bought one for $500 when they came out. Always keep a spare just in case of failure which is very unlikely. However know you cannot EVER get all the water out of tanks on a used one so good chance of leaky mess n shipping and sometimes they fail from ship even with tested good unit from this water. Sometimes turning upside down and shaking very hard with side tank OFF can fix this issue.

  • One of Life's Essentials

Our family depends upon this espresso maker every day! Don't speak to us until we have had our morning coffee. So our previous Breville Cafe Roma got used. A lot. Like eight times a day, every day. It is reliable, fast, quiet, and compact. After years of use, the seals were beginning to leak and the pump was getting noisier. Rather that wait for it to die (Horrors!) and we would be without espressos, we decided to get another one exactly like our first Breville Cafe Roma. The newer Breville weighs less than the first one but otherwise is exactly the same. We confidently expect to get at least five years of 5 - 8 espressos a day from our new one. We also like how little space it takes up on our countertop.

  • Almost perfect

It is important to steam your milk before you pull your shot. Otherwise it takes a very long time to heat up again, and your steaming wand will be pumping out a stream of water instead of steam. That being said, it is a very nice product for the price.

  • Best coffee maker for your house.

This coffee maker is hands down the best coffee maker for your home. Fresh, flavorful coffee every time you use it. Will not buy another brand.

  • love this coffee maker

love this coffee maker. makes great strong coffee. you must maintain / clean it regularly. not for lazy people who just want to pour coffee and water to make coffee. those people should get Mr. Coffee. But if you want a machine that makes coffee just the way you like and with tones of options it this is the machine for you. i see it as owning a high end car. it needs maintenance to make it work 100% as it was designed. only thing is it does not have the heating plate to keep the coffee all day. instead this is design to make the coffee and drink it right away. it keeps the coffee for few hours but not longer. in the other hand by having the heat plate the coffee turns bitter. you want the best in the market in this price range this is the machine.

  • Fantastic product

Now your average coffee maker. Its expensive but totally worth it! This product is for a serious coffee drinker who enjoys a good cup of coffee. The only better brewing method will ever be a more expensive cafe grade brewer, or a manual pour over method. That being said, if you are serious about getting the most out of your coffee but do not want to tinker with manual brewing, then this product is for you! It not only brews you a great cup of coffee, but offers more robust control over how you want your coffee. Not recommended for the cheap coffee drinker who wants to toss crap grounds into a Mr. Coffee maker. Would recommend for a person who wants to use whole beans and wants fresh, strong coffee

  • It’s discontinued so this review is only good for future breville buyers.

Had it for over a year. Control nob can be very stiff to turn(feels like plastic against plastic inside). Have a bad right thumb and it is awkward to turn with left hand. Brew gasket is wearing out, must hold the basket by handle while brewing or it will turn by itself until basket drops off-not cool. Makes a good cup of coffee but i wish they had included a single wall non-pressurized basket as well as the double walled pressurized one. I hear it makes a great cup of coffee, but they are about 38 dollars and at this stage i am not interested in buying. I guess it was worth the money and it is still working plus i got it on sale.

  • Good basic expresso maker

This machine is simple to use. I have two of the same model. The only thing you need to watch for is to make sure you turn it off when done brewing as you can burn the heating element. It does not have an automatic shut-off.
