Amazing amount of power and functions , but outdated
It has an overwhelming capability , keyboard feels HP quality , can do anything you throw at it and if you never used one before , it has a steep learning curve , having said that , the screen is outdated , not as clear as other calculators, it is a little bulky , thick and comparing it to the Prime G2 I bought , the prime is a much more advanced calculator , color , touch screen , easy to access the contents . I bought the 50G for nostalgic reasons , for curiosity . It keeps me busy during Covid days .... if you need a powerful graphic calculator the Prime G2 is clearly the way to go . Same price and much better , I will also say that the Prime is outdated ... low resolution small screen . The HP app for cell phones is the best interface . I find that putting it on an iPad gives it a great size , nice keys and all touch screen . It definitely feels that the mechanical key calculator days are over . Very capable machine
Personally the Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) capability and very deep stack are the things I value most because they make complex calculations easier.. The learning curve is a bit steep compared to the HP Prime and the display is monochrome and not backlit but for everyday engineering use I think its hard to beat. You just need to learn to use it. Great RPN calculator
The calculator was received exactly as advertised - almost zero usage. There were no scratches or and blemishes to be found. After adding batteries, which were not included, the calculator performed a full memory reset. The display contrast is still like new. Being brought up on the RPN logic since high school, I haven't been able to transition myself to algebraic mode. Therefore, upgrading to another HP calculator was the only logical option. The purist could argue that the 'enter' key is both too small and not in the right location. It takes a little time to adjust but it certainly wasn't a show stopper for me. The calculator was HP's last high end programming/graphing calculator - and, the functionality is more than anyone could use. Glad to have this one. HP 50g Super Calculator
HP's latest in a long line of scientific/engineering calculators. There is just about nothing this calculator cannot do. You can save and load programs from an SD card. It has IR and USB interfaces so you can collect data in the field and d/l it into your computer. I'm a fan of RPN but you can set it to "algebraic" (text really) if you want to. Yep, there are actually games for it too. If you want to update, you can d/l new firmware from HP. Now, the only warning. Don't let your batteries (operating and backup) go dead for extended periods of time. You can lose your firmware and brick the calculator. I did that and my only recourse was to get another one (used). But during the time I had my first one, it's been dropped, stepped on, beaten up and really roughly treated. Still have hope of getting it back to working. My only wish is that HP would make it more connective to external devices like TI has done. I was a high school science teacher for 34 years and taught everything except AP Chemistry. Yes, all the other AP sciences too. This calculator never failed me (bricked it after I retired). I would recommend it. Note: It is banned for AP exams because of the IR transfer and alphanumeric capabilities but the receive is crippled to only 4 inches.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

The great set of people that invented the HP 35 and now the HP 50G and its predecesor the HP48G
It is hard to imagine that this hand held tool can do so much and have so much information imbedded in it. Of course this is not for everyone, however, if you enjoy science, mathematics, engineering it will keep you learning or relearning what you had forgotten. It is true that today you have access to a lot of the material on the HP 50G on the internet, you can devise ways to solve a problems in Excel, or for that matter on a smart phone. Great product
The display is bright and legible with good contrast. There's plenty of information here with a seven line stack in the default mode. Here too is a connectivity kit of software, none of which runs on my Mac. I tried plugging it in to the Mac using the standard USB connecting cable (included) but nothing happened. Since I didn't buy the HP with any need to hook it up to my Mac, it's not a problem, but what good is connectivity if noone bothered with the Mac software? There are a few little nits that still need to be picked. For example, the stack is right justified but data entry is left justified. It is much easier to quickly review an entered number and compare it to numbers on the stack if they are similarly justified. The enter key needs to return to double-width just above the numeric portion of the keypad, and HP should finally pick a standard numeric/operator layout and stick with it. The HP41 had the major operators on the left. The HP48 put them on the right and changed the sequence. The HP50 keeps them on the right but bumped them all up by one key. For those of us who essentially touch-type on calculators, this relearning is a pain.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great for Engineers and Students
If you are an Engineer or an engineering student, this calculator will make your life soooo much easier. Solve long complicated equations in a fraction of the time that it would take on a TI calculator, thanks to the Reverse Polish Notation input. Not familiar with it? Take less than 3 minutes to learn it and you will not regret it. There are many other features (graphing, solving symbolically, etc) that makes it good, but the RPN is what really sets it apart from other graphing calculators. This model, though discontinued, is still valuable as many teachers will allow it to used during a test since it cannot connect to the internet.
