  • The best electronic drum kit for the money, in my opinion

This is my second Roland electronic drum kit (the first: TD-25 KVS). The Roland TD-17 KVX is far superior in many ways and way less expensive. The snare is bigger; the surfaces and rims are assignable so that you can essentially have two sounds for every pad; the kick pad mount is beefier and doesn't flop around as much; and most importantly, the sound module is way better than the TD-25's. The drum sounds are more realistic, there are more of them, and you can layer sounds together to create all sorts of weirdness like a gong crash cymbal or a-go-go bell snare. Even better, the bluetooth connection lets you play along to music from your phone. I've started using this kit as not only a practice set but also for live performances. It's the best intersection between price and features -- I did a lot of research before buying this. By the way, I also bought the Drum-Tec Rock Classics Sound Edition for $40 and got another 20 drum kits, including my favorite, the Ayotte Clear. For anyone wondering, I set my kit up as a single mounted tom with two floor toms. The only criticism I have is that unlike the TD-25, you can't mount the sound module left of your Hi-Hat, so it limits where you can place the toms; it would also be nice to have ball mounts on the rack toms, but that's an easy upgrade for about $25 each.

  • Switching from acoustic and pleasantly surprised. 95% of the feel, 5% of the noise.

This is a seriously impressive kit for the price. Response and feel is really good, coming from an acoustic set. Very expressive once dialed in. Rubber cymbals take a little getting used to, but do everything they should and sound great once you adjust your style a little bit. There is plenty of variety of sounds, but only a few "one size fits most" kits. Most kits sound amazing with good headphones. I really like that you can add sounds and build new kits from it. Some are freely available if you do a little searching. Adjusting sounds/tuning is easy and makes sense when switching from acoustic. Seems very durable and should last a long time. You can really get down on this and it takes it in stride. Quick tip, you may need to stretch the spring in your hi-hat stand just a little if you find it's not as quick and responsive as you're used to. Overall I've had a lot of fun experimenting with the different sounds and really don't miss the acoustic set as much as I thought I would. Being able to add new percussion with a few button presses is awesome compared to buying the actual instrument. Huge money saver for experimenting. Being able to play hard at midnight is a huge perk. Can record directly without hassle of mics and studio time. I don't regret this purchase at all.

  • Great set with versatility and authentic acoustic sound

We haven't fully explored how to use the features yet, but it seems to be a really nice set for my 13 year old musically gifted kid that will last him for years. I know everyone says their kid is gifted, but mine has this passion for music and ability to play anything put in his hand that astounds me - IE: this is nicer than your typical beginner set. It's nicer than the set at the music store he is taking lessons on. For tact's sake I wouldn't mention that to anyone who works for Yamaha. Haven't explored the coach feature yet but I like being able to just hear the tapping when I'm busy with other things that require a quieter home. The auxiliary port for his phone so he can hear songs to play with through the headphones is a great feature. The mesh on the toms and snare give an authentic feel and great response. I'm looking forward to sneaking in some time on this when he's at school. Sorry neighbors, this Momma loves her some Aerosmith... Anyhow, the only drawback so far is that It takes time to put it together, and came with a few extra pieces that sent me into down a rabbit trail for a half hour until I put on my cheaters and read the fine print about a different configuration. It would have helped for the pictures of how to put the cymbals together had been a little bigger. Anyhow, the point is, don't expect to be playing it an hour after delivery unless you are a pro and put these together blindfolded in your sleep with one hand tied behind your back on a daily basis (and then only just maybe). It took an hour and a half for this mechanically minded mom to set up the stand, and two hours the next day to get everything put on it and wired up. Times did include getting everything out of the extensive packing material. A degree in "Unwrapology" would have come in handy. Everything was well marked, came in a LOT of different languages creating a fair amount of fire-starting material. I was able to sneak in a couple of tap tap crash bangs before my son realized his lifelong dream of owning a functioning drum set had come true. Happy flying sticks, y'all!

  • Very good

This is my first electronic drum kit. It's a little more than I expected less in some areas. I'm still struggling with the fact of going to electronic drums but it's my deal. The surface only has been stratched in potential of this drum kit. Please take a few weeks to get up to speed on all it is capablities of it takes a lot of time. Very easy set up and to navigate. I haven't even read the manual yet but I will soon.

  • Perfect mid range kit to learn on, with enough expansion for years to come.

Love this electronic drum kit! Exactly what I've been looking for to learn on. All surfaces are super responsive, no missed hits! Read/watched several reviews, and this is the best featured kit on the market at this price point in my opinion. Wanted to have a kit that I could learn on, but grow into and use for a long time, and I think that this fits that bill. Works great as a midi instrument connected into my macbook pro as well. Have been using it with Melodics as part of my practice, and seems to work great so far. Love that this package included a decent high-hat stand along with a kick pedal, as the same total price as others have been selling just the kit for. Sure, the snare doesn't have positional sensors, and bass drum isn't huge, and there are limitations on expansion to additional pads, but I knew those going in and feel I'll only care about those a few years down the road. Have only owned for a little over a week so far, but given the Roland name I hope to not have any problems for a long time.

  • Great for drum newbies

I'm new to drumming and am very happy with this drum set. It's excellent for learning due to its realistic sounds and playability, built-in metronome and coaching function. My wife loves that I can play through headphones and not bother her. I like that I can patch in tunes or another instrument and play along, recording everything on the unit's SD card. Just a couple minor quibbles: 1) It was more trouble to assemble than it should have been due to less than clear instructions. 2) Many of the 50 built-in kits sound similar. I would have preferred more variety, including world percussion sounds. But you do have the ability to create 50 kits of your own if you want. Heads up: this set does not come with a hi-hat stand, kick drum pedal, throne or sticks. I bought my set on eBay from Kraft, which threw in the stand, pedal, throne and sticks for free.

  • Perfect Price / Performance Ratio

Excellent. Bleeds quality. Frame is sturdy, relatively straightforward to assemble, and has plenty of customization range in mounting locations. Responsive, highly adjustable pads. Variety of sounds. Quiet. New controller with this 2018 release means good interface, easy USB audio output for recording out of the box, and bluetooth is handy when you just want to sit down and jam out without setup. Pads are withstanding the abuse well. 3 cymbal, independent kickdrum, moving high-hat, with all the accessories ready to go* out of the box for $1700? (*except headphones) Roland has a real winner on its hands. If you're looking for something advanced enough that you can transition back to an acoustic set without losing your muscle memory entirely, and you want the versatility of that 2nd crash, while not entirely breaking the bank compared with the higher end Rolands and Yamahas, this is your set. Any lower and you lose the adjustable pads, high hat, or cymbal on other sets, and the next higher models are above $2k.

  • AWESOME product, Roland keep up the great work!

Great electronic drum set. It responds just like an acoustic set, but with a lot more fun drum set kits to experiment on.

  • Versatile and responsive tank of an ekit

[Roland TD-17kvx] Seems well-built. Heavy enough that it doesn’t move all over the place when playing. Easy to set up and easy to adjust for comfort. Lots of connection options. Wish it had more stock songs to jam with, but you can always go online to find more songs. Different impact zones is a huge plus. Very responsive. The mesh heads feel pretty close to the real thing. Love how quiet they are too. Overall rating from an intermediate drummer =9 out of 10.

  • Excellent Electronic Drum Set

I am very happy with this drum set. I have not used it for gigs but it is incredible for practice. If you play it through headphones you can practice all night without bothering anyone. It connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth so you can stream music through your headphones and play along. The Bluetooth connection works just like connecting your phone to a car. The set has 50 different built in drum set sounds, plus you can customize each piece of the set. It is a lot of fun to experiment with the different sounds. The acoustic drum sounds are very realistic and through a good pair of headphones sound better than my actual acoustic set. The electronic sounds are fun to play with and open up a lot of musical possibilities. I may try using it for a gig at some point. My only worry is that it might be weird for the other band members to only hear the drums through the monitors rather than having the live acoustic drums next to them. Overall this is an excellent set and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a first electronic drum set.
