Not useful for locating ceiling joists.
Found it very hard to get accurate readings on the ceiling joists. I was using it to locate joists to install new fire alarms. It seemed like it did not operate well when used upside down. It's very good if you don't care about sound feedback
The quality is excellent. It's very compact and very accurate. The only thing that I actually need the most is sound feedback. Or a beeping indicator on top of the LED indicators. Which it doesn't have. It has only LED indicators which are perfect for someone that doesn't care about a beeping noise. If you are colour blind and you can't distinguish the difference between green and red on LED. Then it's not for you. Otherwise it's very rugged.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
