  • Ubiquiti ETH-SP

easy to install, small form factor and does what it intends to do. not only is it priced well below other competitors ethernet surge protectors, its quality and craftsmanship was well thought out giving it a very modern look. not like some other bulky, square boxes like others. ubiquiti has out done themselves with this unit.

  • Works but needs improvement

This is a standard Ubiquity gigabit ethernet surge suppression unit that just happens to work with Cambium equipment (limited to our testing with the list below) These units are true gigabit capable and work with many standard POE methods including 802.3af, 802.3at and Cambium RP-POE. We tested with PMP100 fsk radios and saw no issues, these worked well with the ePMP1000 series and even with our POE VOIP phones that are powered by Cisco/Meraki 802.3af and at poe injectors. The only things we found less than desireable is the wall mounting is a blind mount type that requires a template and the correct (not included) screws and the wire size that is expected. Without modification these do not accept a 10awg ground cable if it has a coating. If we were to improve the design, we would add tabs to the side for wall mounting, increase the expected wire size to support a coated 10awg cable and add a screw lug inside to connect the grounding wire. We were able to make wall mounting easier by using a small strip of 12ga steel with holes drilled wide enough to be easily accessed. Grounding is still a bit of a trick as you need an m8 machine screw and hex nut to secure a suitable lug inside on the grounding tab. Over all compared to Cambiums 600ss and the leading transector gigabit ethernet surge arrestor, these are a viable replacement that saves you almost $10USD per unit when compared to Cambium and almost $90 to transector. What these have over Cambium is the included ablity to be mounted on a pole, the 600SS can not without a bit of creative use of a 4.5inch exhaust clamp and some silicone to seal the knock-outs.
