Nice base for a good price
Products received earlier than estimated. Installed on large roof deck after my rock speaker's tweeter stopped working. I still have 1 rock speaker installed and this DT AW6500, so easy to compare side by side. This has much better sound and bass coming from a Sonos amp. Music is clear and bass, while not subwoofer level, is a vast improvement over the $250/each rock speakers I had. I mounted on the ground with base facing the deck wood and tweeter/mid facing slightly up. No Left-Right Speaker configuration
Speakers are efficient and smooth sounding. Both speakers are identical, so symmetrical orientation of tweeter-woofers is not possible when mounting horizontally. If you flip one of the speakers so tweeters are on the outside of each cabinet, the passive radiators are no longer aligned for best phase and balanced response. I tried listening to speakers mounted approximately 8 - 10 FT apart and ending up mounting one upside down so the stereo image and high frequency information was better. The option of mounting the units with both tweeters on left or right was noticeably inferior. Speakers designed with a passive radiator are best manufactured as a "stereo pair" with a discrete left and right orientation. Good Value, Smooth Sound
I really like these. Silky smooth, and decent bass for what they are. Compared to my much older BA Grand Voyagers with 7" woofers, I like these more since they have the better bass response with bass reflex. I'm running 100 watts through them at reasonable volume(more than background) and they handle it fine; though I don't drive them hard. Solid sound, response, features and build quality at a moderate price point
The AW6500s from Definitive Technology are the standard, not an exception in conversations about outdoor speakers. Assuming you have the appropriate outdoor space to utilize their design, they are the best bang for the buck when paired with an appropriate amplifier. These things are capable of handling anywhere from 10-175 watts. That being said, they perform best in the upper power range. Do not hook them to a 50 watt amp and expect the best performance from them. They will perform at that rating, just not as well as they would with more power. Personally, I'm using a 100 watt per channel amplifier and it is more than enough power to produce great sound for my space. I recommend hooking them to an amplifier you can control the treble and bass to really dial in the best tone. As far as I can tell, the speakers are fully sealed and weather resistant. Not weather proof, weather resistant. In the directions, it recommends installing them under some sort of protection, like the eaves of your house. Also, in order to get the best performance, the passive radiator must face a solid surface of some sort. Keep this in mind when you consider these in your application. Overall, for the price point, the sound quality is top notch. Even standing 100 feet away, I can clearly hear the subtle nuances in the highs and mids. It is a challenge to feel the lows at that distance but the lower audible frequencies are still present.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

The DefTech AW6500 is an amazing speaker. Articulate and detailed with few flaws. It delivers everything from hip-hop to classical with a sophistication and pinache. My only complaint, in an Outdoor Theater like mine, there's an issue with the way the passive radiator and tweeter/mid-range drivers are set that make it odd to have both setup the right way and identical on both sides (theater front). UNBELIEVABLE!
These speakers far exceeded my expectations from the sound quality to the build quality. I'm using these speakers on a large open deck powered by a Luxman R115. Prior to this installation I was using Yamaha's Aw350 with a subwoofer. The Yamaha speakers produced a great sound but a little light on the bass that I desired. After installing these speakers I was able to eliminate the subwoofer and actually lower the bass on the receiver. These speakers are well designed and constructed. I mounted a pair of Definitive 6500’s on our dock at beautiful Lake of the Ozarks; and I can, without a doubt, rock our cove!!! They can be mounted vertically or in a horizontal manner, banana plugs work, and they sound quite nice!! I’m a firm believer “more power” is far superior than using an underpowered amp. That said, I’m using a dated but powerful Onkyo 150 WPC amp to push these, and I’ll consider adding larger “amps” and two more 6500’s in the future as I really appreciate a quality sound system at an affordable price :) Regarding using a sub or not using a sub with the 6500’s, the Bass is good, more Bass is better. Specifically, these sound good as they are, but adding a sub undoubtedly improves the quality of nearly any system. I’m likewise currently looking to upgrade my home stereo speakers; and being I’m very impressed with the 6500’s, I’ll most definitely consider purchasing a high-end pair pair of floor standing speakers from Definitive Technology!!! You will not be dissappointed with these outdoor speakers !
These are great external speaker. With the built in sub and once positioned correctly, given excellent performance even in an large open space. You can really hear the bass compliment the vocals which is hard outside. We have 4 set up on a 20' x 30' deck with a Denon receiver and the acoustics are excellent ...Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
