Great for singing, violin & flute!

I bought the Shure WH20XLR for singing while playing drum set and percussion. I quickly realized it also worked great for flute and violin. This is especially cool for a singing violinist, who demo'ed the head set in a session with us. She is going to buy one ASAP! It slightly picked up my breathing if I get winded while drumming, so I guess I'll excercise more! The sound is excellent. My only wish is if it had an on off switch on it somewhere, so that I could turn it off for songs that are exerting. I suppose I could just detach the connection though. I love the idea that it is wired and the wires runs out the back of the headset, which also comes with a clip for the wire to attach to the back of your shirt. It also has a very sturdy spring steel clip to attach the end of the connection ( where it plugs into a mike extension) onto your pocket. Given the well thought out design, I am not sure why a drum set player would ever want a wireless headset.

something else is better for vocals

I was advised this microphone for vocals. But Shure himself does not position him in his advertising, like a microphone for vocals. Most likely this is just a speaker microphone. Good for streams, lectures. For vocals, weak and poor frequencies. Despite the fact that it is dynamic, it is still advisable to connect it to a preamp for amplification.

  • Shure Headset Microphone

The mic is light weight and produces great sound. However, being a right handed drummer, I prefer the mic boom to be on my left so I can adjust the boom with my left hand. The connector cable is very short and made to be used with a body pack not a mic cable. The mic is also very noisy when taking it off my head. I have to have someone mute the mic before I take it off or it sounds like explosions going off.

  • Good hand free mic.

The WH20XLR is overall well-built except for the wind screen which can fall off easily. The sound is good at mid and high frequencies but understandably not as good at low frequencies compared to a hand held Shure microphone such as the SM58. It is a good microphone for back-up vocal when you need your hands for other instruments.

  • Very shure-cure fit and good sound.

The croaky back head strap is adjustable for tension and provides an excellent secure and comfortable hold for dynamic use. I am using it to background sing while playing the drums. Even comparing it to my sm58 this mic is quite acceptable and offers impressive sound delivery and sweat protection for such a small cartridge. I wish they offered an SM 35 version like this with the croakie and The Sweat Protection but that product line caters to the lead singers who don't sweat but is a slightly better mic. I believe the $300 Michael Jackson version does it all but was way out of my price range. XLR connector has a solid clip for the belt and the cord has a lapel clip for the shirt This one is quite good and could be used for lead.

  • What I expected

Took the drummer a while to get used to it but he sounds much better now. For the money it is a decent mic, you would have to pay 3 times as much to get a truly light weight mic with a flatter response, as others have noted this mic is a little lacking in the high end but with a little EQ it is definitely usable.

  • Great mic

Being a drummer, this mic gives me much needed flexibility to play and sing at the same time. The sound quality is decent and it’s easy to use. I only wish there was a power switch on it somewhere, otherwise great product for the price

  • solution to my problem

I sing and play and hate it when i cant look at my guitar without stepping away from the mic. Britany Spears jokes aside, this thing is a godsend. It sounds really good too. Excellent condition just as described

  • Shure WA-20

Bought this mic as a spare. Have used one for years. I’ve tried condenser mics, but as a singing drummer, found that they picked up drums more than my drum mics. Also purchased a WA-20 TOG to use with my BLX wireless system. Works great.
