  • See the whole shows again w/o commercials or editing. That's entertainment!

Banacek was a 70s TV knock-off of the movie The Thomas Crown Affair, and was very well done from the writing to the casting to the filming. It was one of those shows that you never wanted to miss. A freelance investigator, Banacek was called in whenever claims stalled on high-dollar insured items that went missing: a jet engine, a passenger aircraft, a gem studded royal carriage, a race horse, a football player, a 3 ton sculpture, bonds from a bank, a stack of cash ($1M) from a casino, and more. Even when a story was weak (seldom), the wit and wisdom was there, and was well delivered by the cast: George Peppard, Ralph Manza and Murray Matheson. With the rise of nostalgia TV stations, reruns of shows like Banacek attract attention again. The problem lies in the fact that those networks clip out many of the colorful bits from the show to make room for more commercials. It's like taking the flavor out of the steak. With my own set of videos I now get to see the whole shows again w/o commercials or editing. That's entertainment!

  • A modern day Sherlock Holmes

Banacek is one of those great underrated tv shows. He's like a modern day Sherlock Holmes. Watch the show closely and you will see all the clues he does, but, chances are, you won't be able to piece it all together. Then. at the end of the show, when he's explaining how the crime took place and who's involved he'll go back over the clues and you'll be saying to yourself, "Now I get it".

  • An old Polish proverb says...this is a Winner!

The early 1970's series "Banacek" was a member of the "NBC Sunday Night Mystery Movie" set, starting George Peppard. The screenplay is sharp and entertaining, while Peppard's "cooler than you" confidence is perfect for the stories and the show's time period. While "Banacek" did not reach the popularity of other "Mystery Movie" serials such as "Columbo", "McCloud" or "Macmillan and Wife", it holds up very well. This particular product was in excellent condition, in original boxing and CD quality.

  • An enjoyable tv show!

Banacek dvd box set - Very clever stories! Now be ready though, these were filmed around 1972, so they are slower moving than what people would be used to nowadays. The episodes are enjoyable to watch, they are about 1 1/2 hours long. Would be a 2 hour movie with the commercials. Now as to value, don't know what to say. There are not many of these sets out there, so be prepared to pay more than you would for a typical season of a tv show. Apparently Banacek was on for 2 seasons. The stories are good though.

  • Enjoyable relaxing mystery romp out of the 70's

This was a great series, it would have gone on to further seasons but the main actor Peppard was in a contentious divorce seeking half of everything, that was what killed the show not the ratings. Each episode has mystery, humor and a phony polish proverb. The characters are engaging . We love this series, can you figure out what happened before Banacek does?

  • Great

One of my favorite series when it was on TV, makes a wonder fit in my DVD collection. Still an enjoys le mystery series, even the young people I’ve showed it enjoyed it. Well written episodes, and of course great acting, often better than some more recent eries.

  • Good Classic TV Series

I'm a sucker for classic TV and this fits the bill. An actual scripted show with guest stars who were known back in the day. George Peppard shines as the title character with whit, charm and sarcasm which is similar a lot of ways to how he played Hannibal Smith on the A Team a few years later. This series gives a glimpse into the golden age of TV that is sorely missed by me today. The disks were in good condition and the episodes played through. There was one quirk in the disks. That was one of the episodes appeared to be nearly double length but upon further viewing it was normal length with the episode starting back up a a few minutes in after the end credits. I would guess that it's a production error in the disks but it doesn't really impact the ability to view them. Overall a good buy.

  • Mysteries that seem impossible!

As a fan of George Peppard, Banacek was a limited series (that was usually rotated with others) and only lasted a short time. The premise was Banacek investigated unusual events, thefts that seem to have been impossible, for insurance purposes. One theft involved the theft of a huge statue that needed a crane to move! Entertaining mysteries and Peppard is at his most charming. Definitely recommended!

  • Banacek... That says it all...

I just watched the bonus disk of the pilot. I had not seen it before. Great! I watched one other episode on that same disk that I ad a few seconds of sort of scratchy video. Ill watch it again later to see if that was just an anomaly. I love having the set though.thanks, billy shepherd

Banacek is a little known classic. One of George Peppard's better roles.
