Quality Product and it just works

Motorola has always provided excellent modem specs to a supplier to make a modem to sell as a Motorola brand. This is important because Motorola has decades of experience and can spec parts and systems properly to perform reliably for years. Up until about a year or so ago, Arris made Motorola modems under the Motorola Surfboard branding. Today Zoom Telephonics makes this Motorola modems including this model and I must admit I upgraded from a Zoom model to this because the Zoom model simply was unreliable (I thought I would save a buck or two and buy from Zoom). The lesson I learned was one I didn't have to learn which is a manufacturer can make many devices but its the spec for parts and system function that matter. The MB7420 has been rock solid and that's what I want as I don't even want to think about my modem. The modem has provided great service for 2+ months and I really like the GUI (graphical user interface) where I can see power levels and dropped words. This help me resolve an issue with Comcast last month for signal quality that they traced to faulty equipment. You can purchase an Arris Surfboard but I do not know who provides their specs for design so you may be using an old design. Can't go wrong with Motorola though.

Good, inexpensive (if used) router, but has some issues

This router does it's job and has many options and features, even if it's limited on speed, but it does have some bugs. For example, I could not print to a wireless printer requesting a static IP address. I could see the printer and communicate with it, but not print to it! Eventually, I found a workaround, but at much expense time-wise! There are other bugs that sometimes cause the DHCP client list to display one or all clients as "static IP" when they are not. It takes a reboot or hours for the list to refresh itself and display the clients properly.

  • Great product at an equally great price.

Easy set up provided you know you have to call your provider (Comcaste, etc..) to activate it. Replaced a combo modem/router with this modem and Unbiquity Unify LR access points. Have a much more stable connection.

  • Great match for my cable provider

Simple setup, was able to use the cable company's Web page to activate the modem. Speed tests confirm that the modem is working slightly faster than the cable company's rated mbs for my plan.

  • Great cable modem

Much better to purchase this cable modem for Time Warner and others than to rent. In the pacific northwest, our max. internet speed is about 50 mbps. I am currently purchasing 20 mbps, but receiving between 25 and 30 mbps. Doubt Time Warner in this area will be providing service greater than this modem can provide. Of course, you must have a router to get wireless service; however, I already have a great router, which made purchasing this modem a good deal for me.

  • Disappointment/ does what it's suppose to do

Spectrum bs'ed me into a new modem, said my old motorola DOCSIS 2.0 was too slow for smooth motion video streaming. This one is no faster, just gives DHS easier access.

  • No Problems with the MB7420 but,

It came with a "switching" supply and I have had problems with these before....I would have rather had an analog supply with a transformer. And I am surprised that the MB7420 runs "warmer" than I would expect.... And I bought this unit replacing my older Motorola Modem in order to upgrade my cable speed... My older motorola modem never had any problems....So I bought another Motorola.

  • Good results so far

This is a very recent purchase so I have limited experience with this product . So far so good. Internet tech suggested I should replace my modem and this one is an upgrade for me. Less buffering on streaming. Phone speed and PC seem faster.

  • TWC compatable modem

You have to go through Time Warner Cable to complete hook-up due to having internet, TV and phone through their service. Their modem has the phone jack in their modem so you have to use their modem re-configured to use the phone and use the Motorola modem for internet use. This took a little time to coordinate but does eliminate the $8.00 monthly lease using TWC's modem which is why I proceeded this way. The modem works well with my 100 mbs speed and will pay for itself in 11 months resulting in savings after this period.
