    Sony Ubp x700

Another great Sony product. I have read other reviews that describe problem operation. I have had none of that. Great picture and sound. The ability to play and decode multiple formats including hi res audio files and sacd is an asset that was part of the reason it was purchased. Hdr and Dolby vision at the low price point sold me. I looked at a bunch of different uhd Blu Ray players and this was the best product for the price. Hard to beat Sony when it comes to video.

    Not impressed at all

Unit is difficult to set up, program. Lots of glitches. I spent more time trying to get DVD set up properly than it took me to mount my projector and fish wires through the walls. I purchased it weeks before installation in preparation of a complete home theater upgrade. Had I not waited to long, I would send it back. I should have done better research before purchase, lots of people online with similar issues. Took a gamble and lost on this one. Can’t recommend and have to say poor value for the cost and performance

  • 4K player works when buyers pay attention to details

The Sony 4K player has real problems with any discs that have been touched by hands on the active surface. Any fingerprint will stop the 3rd bluray layer from playing. This is why so many people rate the device as "poor performance" when you get to 1 hour 45 min of play time. HOWEVER, if you religiously clean your 4K discs and handle with clean hands only by the edges, then you can get the system to work flawlessly. Another problem is unit overheating. Be sure to elevate the unit off the surface and DO NOT put it on top of another electronic device that generates heat (like an audio amplifier). I used 3/4 inch nuts to gain a half inch off of my bookcase. That also made the unit to stop doing the "freeze" that so many people see. BOTTOM LINE: unit works fine if consumer pays attention to handling and positioning details.

  • So far, so good.

I’ve had only had the X700 a couple of weeks, and played about 4-5 blu-rays. The image quality is good. Set up was very easy. After connecting it to my TV, which is connected to the AVR via an HDMI eARC cable, the X700 remote worked seamlessly with the AVR, adjusting the volume without having to adjust any settings. Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision was recognized by the TV and AVR. Also, after turning the player off, it would default to the part of the movie where I left off. Thus, so far, so good.

  • Sony UBP-X700 is a nice unit.

The unit has a video enhancement function that makes the older DVD content look crisper and cleaner. It has an intuitive recognition of the output device, whether it is a TV or media device and it brings up the TV automatically with a nice menu. It plays everything I put into the drive as well. A Nice unit!

  • Good product for the money.

Will play any video disc you put in it. Has good picture quality. Unable to add your own apps to the menu. Was hoping to add the MLB app but unable to. Dis-appointed it does not show album artwork when playing CD's. Player is very quiet and easy to use.

  • Small footprint player has performed perfectly so far.

So far, so good. Plays UHD & HD Blu-Rays, SD DVDs , CDs and SACDs without any glitches. I don't use the on-board apps for streaming, so I can't comment. Although it's extremely small & lightweight, it is a quiet spinner and has performed as expected. The remote is very small and there is no back lighting, but the button arrangement is logical, meaning that there is less likelihood of pressing the wrong button in the dark. Recommended!

  • Good 4K player, but stick to Roku, FireTV, etc for streaming apps

Slow adopter to 4K. No 4K TV yet, so can't compare quality -- DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD look about the same (test package: Aquaman 4K + Bluray + digital). One test of the USB, mp4 vid plays beautifully. Cons: WiFi 2.4GHz only; doesn't support 5GHz. Height (1 5/8", 4.2cm) is too tall to slide under the TV (under which the old Sony Blu-ray player and a PS2 Slim do fit). Width and depth of the unit are also larger. Pros: Supports 4K, 3D, Blu-ray, DVD formats; multiple streaming codex too. Ethernet connection. Energy Star. USB port on front. Apps: Hulu "classic" app already installed; VUDU app also looks "classic". Netflix & Prime Video are pretty current. Fewer apps, with CuriosityStream expiring soon. At this writing: 18 entertainment apps (12 TV/movie, 6 music), plus 3 device apps (disc, USB, Miracast screen mirroring). One app can be set to the Favorite button on the remote.

  • Sony DVD in a nutshell

This upgraded Sony DVD player is a much better version of its former self. The unit turns on and boots up immediately; before it would take up to 2 minutes. You can navigate quickly and easily to apps through menus. The one drawback to Sony DVD players to me, is the lack of playback features. You need a slow playback with different speeds, so you can watch scenes in differentiating speeds of slo-motion viewing (handy when you have great movie explosions with a lot of detail). Too bad the price is so very high to get the better version of DVD player (from $40 to $300)
