Product Information
A popular and exceptionally well-received game for the handheld Nintendo DS (with compatibility with the 3DS), Suikoden Tierkreis from Konami received a highly favorable IGN Rating of 8.8 following its 2009 release date. Although it differs substantially from other games in the Suikoden franchise, being an otherworld installment, there is plenty for fans to enjoy – from engaging characters and plot to new gameplay mechanics. Centering on an intriguing political story, the game has been praised for its twists and turns and in-depth character development – much like the other games on PlayStation systems. The main player character in the story, named by the player, is a rural orphan who becomes entangled with The Order of the One True Way, a group for whom life progresses along a pre-ordained path. Fundamentally disagreeing with this worldview, the player character sets about building an army to destroy the Order, a task that includes a range of interesting characters and engaging alliances. Adapted from the other games for a generally younger Nintendo DS audience, Suikoden Tierkreis takes design cues from anime, and offers plenty of animated cut-scenes and exaggerated voice acting. There is also a catchy soundtrack, with a number of tunes that fans of the franchise will find familiar. Visually stunning, Suikoden Tierkreis is characterized by its disarming blend of three-dimensional models, each carefully designed and animated, and the hand-drawn, two-dimensional settings. The game’s designers have made excellent use of scale for some of the environments, resulting in a cinematic aesthetic appeal comparable but superior to other atmospheric games. Another novel visual feature of Suikoden Tierkreis is the appearance of equipped weapons and other items on the characters in-game. While this might seem like a trivial addition, in practice it furnishes the game with an even greater level of immersive realism. Players get around the world by navigating from town to town on a menu, which slashes transit times and streamlines the game for the Nintendo DS cart. Similar to other role play games, Suikoden Tierkreis utilizes a random combat encounter system, which means combat can happen at almost any time while walking around. These battles can be automatically resolved while the player sits back and observes. Players control a party of four characters who take it in turns to attack opponents using various physical, magic and combination strikes. Characters can also change weapons during combat, unlike in previous Suikoden games. The 108 playable characters in the game must recruited individually, following the player’s successful search for them, which adds to the challenge of the game and alters the ending if the player is successful in collecting all 108 of them. A returning feature that fans will appreciate in Suikoden Tierkreis is the trade system. This allows players to buy and sell items, the availability of which varies from region to region along with their price. Making use of the Nintendo DS internet capability, an online mode allows players to trade characters they have not been able to find, as well as pick up additional missions, from the online community. Nearly-universally ranked as one of the best role play games on the Nintendo DS (and 3DS), Suikoden Tierkreis is a gem for fans of the franchise and new players alike. As well as incorporating several elements that made earlier games popular, this installment brings its own unique contributions to the Suikoden video games series.Product Identifiers
