A dear friend got this for me because I like some Star Trek. . .
I don't know how they managed it, but Mego has done the impossible and created something as ugly on the outside as Princess Mike of Vulcan is on the inside. Not only is this figure an assault on the eyes, but it's beyond cheaply made like the company knew not to put too much effort and money into it because they weren't going to be selling a lot of them. As a result of that cost-cutting, Mike's not made of the same colored plastic throughout. The one gifted to me as well as others I've seen photos of have white torsos poorly painted to resemble the consistent coloring found on the Uhura dolls. Paint. The Gorn Captain is made of all green plastic, yet, somehow, the first black woman to have ever played a black woman on any Star Trek project ever made has been spray painted. . . How's that for representation?
Of course, we must address the nightmare-inducing head sculpt. Seriously, what happened there? I'm inclined to believe it was an attempt by the manufacturer to make this character not look like a judgemental, cry-baby, insufferable know-it-all, and well, they made something no so vicious or stupid, but it's also not flattering to the grade-z actor this was supposedly modeled on.
