Firefly the Series - Josh Whedon
This is Josh Whedon's classic series that the network cancelled and the fans would not let die. The characters are as near to perfectly cast as any show I've ever seen. Humor, adventure, excitement, mysterious characters and of course ongoing love stories keep you on the hook. When the network cancelled the show the fans bombarded the producers with complaints. Josh had plans to run the series for at least three years and make a movie if it survived. The fans raised over a million dollars and Josh made the classic thriller "Serenity". The Firefly series is a great lead-in to the film or just as good if you've only seen the movie. This is a great series that should have lasted a lot longer, I really love the characters and feel it needed another year to really catch fire. Four of the stars of Firefly went on to success in other series, so the cast was solid and talented, and who can argue with Josh's post success. One of the greatest shows ever cancelled in the first season.
Great combination of old school TV genres: part SciFi and part western. Surprisingly good writing, story development and character development. Great performances from veteran Ron Harris and a largely inexperienced cast that went on to substantial success (Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, Gina Torres). TBBT to FIREFLY
I only knew of FIREFLY to the numerous references made in my fave TV comedy The Big Bang Theory. Their passion for FF led me to search for the DVD. For a low budget production, one that seeks to walk the line 'tween comedy and action, it was quite successful and was finding it's true voice and tempo as a show when it was cancelled. My favorite series
If you have never seen this show, you are in for a treat and you will know why there is a cult following even after all these years since it was cancelled. Nathan Fillion leads a great cast of charcters in this almost space oater. It is exciting, funny, serious the most entertaining scifi series ever on TV. Great story line--Sheldon Cooper was right!!!!!
Did not watch Firefly when it was first on TV. I kept hearing about it on Big Bang Theory. Started watching it on Netflix--got half-way through the series and Netflix canceled it!! So I found this great, super clean used set on EBAY. Sheldon Cooper was correct--the TV executives that canceled the series were foolish. Great story line, interesting characters. And, ladies--though it did nothing for me---, some of you may enjoy seeing Nathan Fillion's bare butt in the episode called "Trash". The interplay of futuristic space travel and old west is quite interesting. I have finished watching the entire series. This is an excellent compact dvd box set of the entire run of Firefly, plus some special features, deleted scenes and even better behind the scenes commentary and footage. And therein lies the problem: It is 13 episodes of the post civil war wild west transported into a future 'Verse with spaceships, but with a level of reality that has very rarely been achieved in Science Fiction. This is the future not of a shiny new spaceship, but a beloved flying wreck that is held together by baling wire and love, and of necessity. The stage set was built full scale, and that reality shows. Like all great shows, it becomes real to the viewer, the characters become your people, even your family, and you are along for both the victories and the defeats. Or rather, first the defining defeat and the small and not-so-small victories thereafter, along with their inevitable costs. Pair this with the "14th episode" aka "Serenity" the feature movie that wrapped up the story all too soon, for the whole story. Then you will know the true pain of all Browncoats everywhere. There isn't any more. Save for a few graphic novels that are like methadone for the addiction that you will suffer from for the rest of your life. (While good, it's of course not the same as watching the expression on Kaylee's face, or the interplay between Mal and Zoe. For that you'll rewatch the series from time to time, and sigh with the bittersweet pain of the credit roll when it's finished.) Rupert Murdoch has much to answer for, the inadequate support and early cancellation of this show is just one count of a record that will put him in "the special hell", with pedophiles and people who talk at the theatre.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

The best show, hands down. Good family fun, characters have depth and are engaging.
I just love this show, it's so entertaining, I've watched it start to finish at least a dozen times. It has excellent character development. The characters stay by their moral values (whatever they may be) for the entire length of the show - unlike some of the those shallow shows these days! THIS show is extraordinarily well-written, the actors are entirely believable, there are surprises and twists, and in the later episodes there are references from the beginning which is the mark of an excellent production and writing team. This is a far-future- space-cowboy sort of thing, but it's totally cool. And when they "swear" it's in Mandarin (and it's not even vulgar when translated according to the special features), which really packs that emotional punch of when an expression is truly warranted while still being 100% family friendly. Witty, funny, emotional, deep, moral, fast-paced, fun. A+++++++ (The movie Serenity is a spin from this show, produced after the show was cancelled after only 11 aired episodes, but you get 14 on the DVD set, as some weren't aired. Everyone should own at least one copy of this show I own two
One to keep and one to lend and make more Browncoats(Firefly Fans). Firefly is the best show you never heard of, that Fox, in their extreme idiocy canceled before the end of the first season. Firefly fans were so outraged Fox ended up making a feature length movie in 2005 called Serenity to shut us up, and now they are willing to reboot the show if creator Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Cabin in the Woods, Avengers) will write and direct.
