These are the first three books of "The Corps" series, in one volume. The story line follows the career of Marine enlisted man, prior to and during the 2nd World War, on his unexpected way to becoming a Marine Corps major. Good reading by a good author. Highly recommended for those whose interests include stories of the military.
Disappointing! Don't buy these two 3 Novel sets. PB versions are much better!
Read the PB version of the Corps series some years back. Enjoyed it very much. Wanted the HC version to read again - easier storage - longer lasting and bigger print. If you still read ONLY this "Three Complete Novel" version, you will still find it a great story. BUT if you had read the PB version earlier - you will find this story cut/edited/abridged and many good parts left out. I.e. PB version is 352 Pages - this "Complete Novel" is 235.
Suspect the other two complete novels in this book are the same- in that
PB edition for "Call to Arms" is 384 pages - this book 242.
PB edition for "Counterattack" is 512 pages - this book327.
Since I also bought the other "Three Complete Novels" also I suspect the same.
W,E,B. Griffen books are well done, along with the rest of his early books.
I have read these three books before, and wanted to re-read them again. Getting these three books in one package has been super. I will be looking for 5-6-7-8 in the near future.
This is a compilation of 3 paperbacks, so the print size is relatively small and may be difficult to read for some people.
THE CORPS is an interesting series that is centered on the USMC between 1940 and 1952. It is a well written series that skillfully blends actual people and events with the primary fictional characters. This book contained the first 3 books in the 10 book series.
