The aim for the development is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC used low carbon HPSR steel, having a higher friction coefficient of 18%. This steel is much more resistant to rust than cast steel. Furthermore, the entire surface is protected with a 3 micron thick zinc coating, which abrades already in the area of the pad contact patch during deceleration. Only in this surface area of light rust can form over a long service life. The brake discs are drilled in the wings of a bird design making with as few holes as possible with optimal cleaning of the brake disc of rainwater and brake dust.
